Mr. Football goes to....

Featured Replies

Every year we discuss the merits of various players that we think deserve consideration for Mr. Football.

Some will tour eye popping career stats while some talk only about this season.

Here is my question....Should Mr. Football go to

A) The Senior with the best overall career.

B) The Senior with the best Senior season.

C) The best player for that season, regardless of being a Senior or not.

Part 2...Should a Mr. Football be named for each class from 1A to 6A?

Yes. 100%. No way to compare across classes with discrepancy in competition.

1. A - Sr with best overall career

2. No. I like that we have 1 Mr. Football. Even if you break down to 1 for each class, there is wide discrepancies among level of competition within. 1 Award is best IMO. It is elite, special, recognition.

Tennessee has not only a Mr. Football for each class, but also has a separate award for backs and linemen in each class, for a total of 16 Mr. Footballs in 8 classes.

To save me from typing the same stuff, I will simply say THIS.

Another thing we should go by is team record.

Totally agree 74!

I will actually add this...

3. Each class should have it's own "Player of the Year"

I love the Mr. Football award and completely agree that it needs to stay an institution.

I don't see the harm in having a Mr. Football for the entire state and individual POTY per class.

If Trajan Bright balls out for Mayfield and has a legendary career I think he deserves an individual honor and recognition, especially if he would essentially be eliminated from Mr. Football contention simply because he plays for a small school with no D1 offers.

This. Have POY's for each class, then award a Mr. Football from those.

Record only or record and playoff advancement?

S.O.S. can severely skew things if record is all that matters.

Only one award. But I understand the angst from the generation that expects trophies. Just sayin'.

Cant water it down with 6+ Mr. Footballs but I like the poy idea. IMO the award should go to the best senior in the state who had the best season, while keeping career and team success in mind.

There is a Gatorade player of the year for each class.
