October 4, 20169 yr My priority: Trading Zack Cozart & Brandon Phillips (if possible). This would allow Peraza and perhaps Dilson Herrera to establish themselves. Jose Peraza has shown he can play everyday. Peraza played in 71 games this year batting .329 with a .357 OBP. He has played 30 games at SS, but I don't know how he has graded out defensively. If Peraza can play short, Cozart will get traded. Peraza has also shown the ability to play 2nd and the outfield, so he has some extra versatility. Herrera performed well in the minors, although in limited action. He played 110 games in AAA hitting .274 with .335 OBP, 15 HR, 64 RBI's. For Louisville, he hit .266 with .372 OBP in 24 games. If the Reds can deal both Cozart & Phillips, Herrera gets the nod. What can you get for either? Phillips showed he can still play in 2016 but he is of no value to the Reds other than as a "good guy." At $14M, he's too expensive for that. If you can get a team to take his full salary and Reds get a fungo bat in return, go for it. Cozart is arbitration eligible and should command around $3M his injuries and slumping performance after a good start. I'd keep him as cheap insurance unless you get some decent offers. Maybe he can replicate a good start in 2017 like he did in 2016 and you can command something for him before the ASG. I like Peraza, but his OBP is low and he's not as fast / as good a base stealer as the reports suggested. Assuming Hamilton is healthy and continues to improve (big IF), where do you bat Peraza? Not sure he has the bat handling skills to be 1 true #2 guy. Seems kinda wasted at #7 or #8.
October 4, 20169 yr I'm interested to see what the Reds do with Duvall and Suarez. I'm guessing absolutely nothing. Both are team control for 2017 so pay them their minimum and ask them to improve on 2016. Let them know if they do, a 2-3 yr. deal is a real possibility after 2017. (Duvall isn't arb eligible until 2019. Suarez is arb eligible in 2018.)

Go into next season with a starting eight of: C - Barnhart 1B - Votto 2B - Herrera SS - Peraza 3B - Suarez LF - Duvall CF - Hamilton RF - Schebler/Winker Rotation will be DeSclafani Bailey (if healthy) Straily Finnegan (still think he's best in the bullpen, but...) Stephenson Put Lamb and Adelman in the long-relief roles, and use Reed as a LH specialist. Keep Cingrani, Lorenzen, and Iglesias as the back end. I hope they send Cingrani to Arizona Fall League or Hawaii and tell him that by the time they break camp in AZ if he's not throwing 70% strikes and 65% first pitch strikes, he's going to the Southern end of I-71 and not where it meets with I-75.

December 9, 20169 yr As a die hard Reds fan, I realize that the 2015-2016 were the rebuilding years. However, I am willing to give a pass on the first half of 2016 as the 9 players listed as candidates for the rotation last spring in a Cincinnati Enquirer article just imploded during spring training. Disco( 8.38 era), Bailey, Moscot( 8.31) not ready for the season along with Lorenzen, Lamb, and Inglesis, and Stephenson( 9.58) with washed up Sanchez (7.94 )and Tim Melville (5.71 ) looking like a star among these guys. Amir Garrett had a 22. Plus era before being shut down. Thank Goodness Alfredo Simon and Dan Strailey came late in the spring to supposedly to eat innings. So the 2nd half we were a .500 team. I think BP makes/protects Joey Votto and is not where he was defensively, but above average. I think/know Peraza makes errors from short in Louisville while he was here, mostly all throwing. I think Herrera is overrated so I would be okay with a Cozart Peraza infield.

If I'm an everyday player, I sure as hell got tired of watching balls sail over the fences last year. Especially just after scoring runs the half inning before to either tie the game or put the Redlegs ahead.
