Jose Peraza has shown he can play everyday. Peraza played in 71 games this year batting .329 with a .357 OBP. He has played 30 games at SS, but I don't know how he has graded out defensively. If Peraza can play short, Cozart will get traded. Peraza has also shown the ability to play 2nd and the outfield, so he has some extra versatility. Herrera performed well in the minors, although in limited action. He played 110 games in AAA hitting .274 with .335 OBP, 15 HR, 64 RBI's. For Louisville, he hit .266 with .372 OBP in 24 games. If the Reds can deal both Cozart & Phillips, Herrera gets the nod.

October 3, 20169 yr The 2016 pitching staff was historically bad but the future doesn't worry me as much as one might think. There are a lot of quality pitching prospects, and predicting the rotation will occupy most of the offseason chatter. Based on this year, Desclafani, Finnegan (despite what UKMF says ) and probably Straily have earned a spot in next year's rotation. You'd assume Homer Bailey will be in the rotation, too. This basically leaves one spot for Stephenson, Reed or Lamb. Amir Garrett or Rookie Davis could possibly compete for a spot, too. One or two of the starters that don't make the rotation fall to the bullpen along with Iglesias & Lorenzen.

October 3, 20169 yr Nick Senzel has .415 OBP in Dayton (Single A); in 68 games as a professional, Senzel hit .305 with a .398 OBP, HR, 40 RBI, 18 SB (caught stealing 7 times). He was the #2 overall selection in this past year's draft (2016). If he continues to perform at that level, he may get called up late next season.

Go into next season with a starting eight of: C - Barnhart 1B - Votto 2B - Herrera SS - Peraza 3B - Suarez LF - Duvall CF - Hamilton RF - Schebler/Winker Rotation will be DeSclafani Bailey (if healthy) Straily Finnegan (still think he's best in the bullpen, but...) Stephenson Put Lamb and Adelman in the long-relief roles, and use Reed as a LH specialist. Keep Cingrani, Lorenzen, and Iglesias as the back end.

October 3, 20169 yr It's only $14M over the next 2 years. Which is not a lot if he's able to play everyday. I'm of the belief that he'll never catch another inning at the ML level though. Makes it impossible for an NL club to fork over that kinda cash IMO.
