Kaepernick: "There's a lot of racism in this country disguised as patriotism"

When it's starts to hurt you're wallet or bottom end, you do what many posers do and go back after the American dollar.

You do know he opted out of his contract on his own and wasn't released? You do understand if he was worried about his wallet hurting he wouldn't have opted out of his contract? You are aware of this fact aren't you?

In fairness, Kap restructured his deal last year so that he could opt out at this time in hopes of getting more on the open market. Without the opt-out he would have been released. This was a business move on both parts, set in place months ago to get his free agency started earlier.

And both sides also say the door is open for a reunion even though that likely will not happen. Colin Kaepernick will be on an NFL steam next year. He won't make 14 million this season because he isn't worth 14 million a season. Neither is Mike Glennon but I digress. My point still remains that his decision to end his protest has zero bearing on where he stands in the NFL. His QB skills do.

I am in the minority, but I actually thought Kap did a decent job last year when you consider he was coming off injury, refused to rehab or condition properly, and the fact that SF was a disaster.

If he puts the time and effort into it, I believe he still has a shot to be a suitable backup. That is a big IF. Aside from the protest stuff he was viewed negatively since he was not putting in any work.

I am with you in this thought.

He helped me win a fantasy football championship.

From what I've read, what Bugs said is right...if he hadn't opted out he would have been cut by the Niners. I'm sure in looking for another job and wanting to make himself as attractive to another team as possible led to him making his announcement. Other wise he could have just waited until this fall and stood there with his teammates without making any comment.

NFL Owners, Teams, GM's and Coaches hate distractions...this was a smart business decision on Kap's part to let everyone know that where ever he goes next year he won't be a distraction like he was this year (not that it hurt the Niners, they sucked without distractions). He can still address social injustice without using the NFL platform and if he feels as strongly as he says (and I have no reason to think he doesn't) he will continue to use is position in the community to speak out.

I was wrong big time. He'll never play in the NFL again and it isn't because he sucks.

Why? Is he dating a Kardashian?

Nah. Though that is a good thing IMO.

He's been blackballed as a result of his protest. I didn't think they would blackball him but I was wrong.

The Jets signed Josh McCown. If Josh McCown is finding work before Kaepernick then he isn't going to get signed.

I would sign Josh McCown before Kaepernick any day of the week. Gino Smith? No way, you got me there.

If you are an owner, even if you are 100% behind what Kaepernick did (and what the media molded his message to be about), you still have to evaluate the business decision of it. Let's be honest. Regardless of where Kap goes, it is for a backup position. Teams only keep 2 QBs on a roster now so they wonder if it is more trouble than it is worth? Personally, I don't think people would really care after the initial signing. Owners out-think themselves all the time with these type of things. I liken it to Michael Sam and to a less degree Tim Tebow. Owners don't want their platform to the be the platform for player's social causes.

Agreed that Kap is a backup QB.

Disagree that I would sign a 37 year old Josh McCown over Kaepernick nor would I give Mike Glennon 15M/year over Kap.

If Kaepernick is no longer protesting then and he still can't get signed then he is being blackballed because he protested. Seems clear to me.

I guess you could say blackballed. Usually that implies an action the owners don't agree with. The suits may be huge donors for a cause, but they try and remain neutral in perception. You sign Kap, that means you endorse his actions... even if you support them. Not sure I am saying it clearly.

Also note, Kap has gone 3-16 over his last 19 starts. This includes multiple reports of him not properly rehabbing or putting in the necessary work to be a suitable NFL QB. He hasn't done himself any favors in the production department to make him worth the "risk" of alienating the fan base.

He put up good numbers on the worst team in football last season. Aaron Rodgers wouldn't have won in San Francisco last year. Other than the Chicago Bears game the San Francisco offense was clearly better when Kap became the starter. That team was just horrible. He proved he can still play though. He wasn't horrible like RGIII or Brock Osweiller.
