100 percent accurate. Ryle put a running clock on Highlands in the 2nd quarter last week. Scored 43 points in the first half. Finished the game with 50 points. Morgan had 250 yds on 16 of 18 passing, 2 TDs. If Ryle would have kept passing the stats would have been much different. What I like about Cooper is that they never know who will run at QB until that year. Nathan Brown last year lit it up. Lonaker seems to be following in his footsteps. I'm a Ryle guy, but one with much respect for the other team in Union. Much Respect.

 

As far as the post you replied to, see my next post to explain that actually supports my point about Lonaker more than Morgan. So thanks for that also.

It's always a complete mystery how the Cooper QB's will be. as you pointed out, we never know who will be the QB. Started in 2013 when Will Ludwig started as a Senior and broke all passing records that year for Cooper, the following year Billy Pricket takes over as a senior and what does he do? Just lights it up and takes the team all the way tot he State Semi's as he throws for over 1000 yards with 15 TD's. The following year (last year) Nathan Brown steps in as a senior and becomes the first time starting QB and he ends up throwing for even more yards than Prickett the year before. Now this year, what Jarod Lonaker is doing is nothing short of amazing and I can garuntee no one outside of Jarod himself ever expected the season he is having. Jarod right now after only 4 games already has more passing yards than Prickett and is on pace to shatter Ludwigs 2225 yds passing. It is simply amazing what Coach Borchers has been able to do at the QB position every year. Next year will be the 5th year in a row he has had a first time starting QB.

Actually the numbers are the thing that certainly lies. When a team is winning by a large margin they either put in the twos or quit throwing the ball to burn up the clock.

Great point, especially seeing how Cooper has won by large margins in the games they have won also and apparently have put on the brakes sooner than Ryle has in their games seeing how Lonaker has less pass attempts than Morgan. Thanks for bringing that up.

Have not read through all the posts from this topic but just be reminded that Jamale Caruthers from Bowling Green over the next 4 weeks should only play in 1/2 the game each Friday night. HOWEVER, in one half of action each of the next few Friday nights, he should probably average 200 yards and 3 or 4 TDs. At minimum I think he gets 700 yards and 10 TDs in the next 4 games. If the coaches would let him (I respect them not doing this). He could get 700 and 10 TDs the next 2 games - crazy

To tell you the truth, I have no idea. I haven't been to any of the JV games so I don't know who has been playing QB for JV. I also wouldn't be surprised if a sophomore next year steps up to become the starting QB. This year I had a good idea it would be Lonaker as he battled N Brown for the spot in training before last year. Although going into this year it was wide open from what I hear. I heard it could have been Schlarman, Lonaker or even Dante Hendrix, and I was very happy it wasn't Dante because that would be handcuffing such a great receiver threat for the team.

 

Next year, your guess is as good as mine. Schlarman is such a good athlete, he can basically play anywhere. Last year he played a lot of RB and FB. He can also play WR or TE. He is a pretty good all around defense man too so if you play him at QB, although Borchers has a lot of 2 way players, QB is one he doesn't like playing both ways since he had Morris play both ways back in 2011 and 2012.

 

I'm just waiting for the streak of very good QB's to come to an end, nothing that good can last forever. I'm also hoping it doesn't end in my lifetime lol. Kind of fun to watch how he handles and molds the QB's. Funny thing is last year pre season I watched Lonaker play when he was competing with Nathan Brown and Lonaker always had accuracy but had a lot of other things he was deficient in and him losing the spot to Brown was no surprise for me. This year the change has been ... Wow! Just goes to show what a little tutelage under Borchers can do for a QB. You don't get the attention needed when you are battling for the position, but once you win it and coach can spend the time needed with you, the improvement is eye opening. Last year was the exact same with Nathan Brown. He was given so many opportunities from his sophomore season on but just couldn't get it. then once he won the spot and Borchers worked with him he became 100 times better than I ever thought he'd be. It's really amazing to watch.

Kent Phelps from Paintsville has to be in this conversation, he is committed to Wofford. As of last week, Kent was the 1A scoring leader with 54 pts. Currently he has 45 carries for 465 yds and 9TDs, 6 catches for 102yds and 2TDs.

Based upon what? You look at Payne's impressive numbers and they are QB #s . You look at Carothers #s and they are RB numbers. They depend on each other. BGs offense works so well because they both (along with Deanglo Wilson, Luke Brown, and many others including a very good offensive line) execute their offense. To say Payne has had a better year than Carothers when Payne throws him a bubble screen and Carothers goes 70 yards to the house. Who did the work? I'm splitting hairs here, but to say Payne's had a better year than Carothers is comparing Apples & Oranges in a Premium Fruit Stand.
