August 30, 201610 yr It's just part of it. People who defend Freddie Gray, Michael Warner, Tamir Rice and others are viewed as cop haters. Just the way it is. That's a sad statement about how divided this country has become. I blame those that want to be offended by everything. If Kapernick REALLY want to make a statement quit playing in the NFL immediately, sell his mansion and move to a neighborhood where the problems he wants to protest are more likely to happen.

His protest is all everyone is talking about and a lot of what people will talk about for at least the next two weeks. I'd say he accomplished part of what he set out to do already and that is bring awareness to what he believes.

August 30, 201610 yr Can't deny this. Mission accomplished. He also had me look up who the hell he is. So he's got that going for him. :lol2: :lol2:
August 30, 201610 yr Ok here goes , cut me some slack I'm short on time and have so many thoughts they might run together . First to PP92 . I'm going to be straight with you and hope it doesn't offend . My intentions are get a better understanding from both sides . From your comments and support of CK I get the strong vibe you don't trust white people at all. And as a rather white person who hasn't done a darn thing to deserve that distrust it hacks me off . And that my trouble with CK and his misdirected protest . When he " America " is oppressing black people I think he is talking directly at me , like I'm part of some unwritten code to hold black people back . I'm not , and I'm really tired of being treated like I am . His problem seems to the cops and drug laws or something along those lines . How many 100's of thousands of GOOD cops is he throwing under the bus because of the horrific actions of what would amount to less than 1% of all cops. But your comments and CK comments seem directed at all of white America . I know I'll get labeled as naïve but I'm a guy who attempts to be as color blind as possible . A guy is a guy , a girl is a girl , whether you are Chinese or Haitian , you a just a person like me . If more people of all races , mainly blacks and whites , had that attitude wouldn't all be better off ? Instead of all the labels ? Just be an American . If CK choose to wear a sticker on his helmet with " no bad cops" or some other way to highlight his cause I'm ok with it . But he choose to disrespect everyone who loves this nation. All the lost lives protecting it . Just a awful platform to attempt to bring attention to what he feels is an issue ( who is not paying attention anyway ??) Yeah some bad cops did some awful things . In most , not every , but most cases the legal system dealt with it and justice was doled out . Why accuse the entire country , esp white people , of supporting the few wrongs that have happened . We don't . I'll even say this . I'd bet a buck I've been the victim of more race driven violence than he has . has he ever been attacked by a mob of white people ? I have been by black people ( teens) . Circa 1984 . Huntington WV . Ran into 2 classmates at the mall. Was with my parents but rode home with them . Stopped at a pool hall/game room in the downtown area , was walking back to our car when surrounded by a group of black people. Was accused of nothing other than being white . Bottles were broken and we were threatened with them. John Spence got attacked first , broken nose , lacerations to his face . Me and my buddy ran when he was attacked . David Justice was the other guy with me . We spent the rest of the night in the ER . BUT I don't blame any other black person for that . PP92 didn't have a single thing to do with that . Why should I feel like I'm part of the problem because of my skin color ? Well time to go to work . I've actually got more to say . Peace to all of you .
August 30, 201610 yr Here is what bothers me about it. I have no problem if you want to protest something and use sitting during the national anthem. That isn't the problem. The problem I have is the reasoning he gave to why he is protesting. I saw an article today about Jackie Robinson protesting the national anthem back in 1947 and they tried to compare it as being the same thing CK is protesting when they couldn't be further from the truth. In 1947 blacks were opressed. Blacks not only had their own bathrooms and drinking fountains as well as blacks couldn't stay in the same hotels as whites or even his own teammates etc and had to sit at the back of the bus etc. there was segregation across the country in 1947. There is none of that today. I still have not seen from anyone anything close to showing blacks cannot do the same things whites can. There are no separate laws for blacks and whites. That is what I have an issue with, CK made statements that make it sound as if every black person shot by police were innocent bystanders and the only reason they were shot is because they were black. We all know that isn't true. That is what I don't like his message. The National Anthem is all about the men who sacrificed everything to keep this country free period. It is a way to honor those who went before us. If CK is serious then do something. He supports oppressive nations with his hobby of collecting Nike shoes. He is supporting child labor, that is oppression not here when a criminal tries to kill a police officer and gets shot. Now if you want to say that all Blacks don't have the same advantages of some whites, I would agree. Environments that lead to tougher roads to get out of certain neighborhoods and lead a fruitful life is very tough for some. At the same time they still have the same rights as whites and although it may be a tougher path depending on their environment they are raised in, there is opportunity to improve yourself. Education is the biggest helping hand anyone has. So yes, let's protest certain environments and improve lives but the people in those environments have to be willing to help themselves as well. Would you trade places with a black man in today's society? Meaning how you're viewed and treated by the rest of society, police, courts, employers, etc? Would you be willing to make that switch for let's say, a year?
August 30, 201610 yr On point. My only issue is the divisive commentary because folks are too lazy to look beyond blanket statements. It assists in fueling outrage (by both sides) and leads to unrest. When asked about it had he said "I refuse to stand until policing against minorities is improved," it would resonate more with me because I know that to be true. Remember, "murder" means premeditation with the intent to kill. I believe biases exist that have led to death, but I refuse to believe there is a systemic effort by the police to murder others. Maybe I am naive though? And the Castro shirt. Talk about oppression. :lol2: It shows his ignorance.
August 30, 201610 yr Out of curiosity why was the original CK thread shut down and now two more are open?
August 30, 201610 yr People can talk about Colin Kaepernick all you want. Go find all of your black friends/coworkers and ask them these questions and tell them you want honest answers. 1. How do you feel about Colin Kaepernick and the stance he is taking? 2. How do you feel about the national anthem? 3. How do you feel about the oppression of blacks in America? 4. Do you love being an American? 5. How do you feel about race relations in America? Go find your black friends and ask them face to face for some honest answers to those questions. Or better yet, go find multiple black people and ask them those questions. Ask your black coworkers. I'll tell you this too......if you have some black friends or coworkers who have been silent on this issue then that means they agree with Kap. If you have some black friends or coworkers who drop a word or two about it and move on that means they either agree with Kap or will say whatever because they want to have a peaceful day at work. I had some good private conversations with black coworkers who just want a peaceful day at work today. Just saying...... So no matter what, according to you if you are black you agree with Kap. That is basically what you just said. SMH

August 30, 201610 yr It's just part of it. People who defend Freddie Gray, Michael Warner, Tamir Rice and others are viewed as cop haters. Just the way it is. Hating cops is one thing, being labeled a racist is 1000 times worse. A ton of people hate cops, doesn't matter what race you are. Some people just have a problem with authority is all and it's usually those who break the law. That has nothing to do with race.
August 30, 201610 yr That's a sad statement about how divided this country has become. I blame those that want to be offended by everything. If Kapernick REALLY want to make a statement quit playing in the NFL immediately, sell his mansion and move to a neighborhood where the problems he wants to protest are more likely to happen. Just because Kap is well off doesn't mean he should turn a blind eye to what he feels is wrong. Plus, there are hundreds of people in those neighborhoods now protesting and fighting hard against black on black violence but no one cares or is listening. At the very least there are some people who are listening now. And yes, this country is very divided but the other thing that gets lost in all of this is how we all continue to coexist. Why? Because we love our country and how we live in this country. People of all races criticize this country every day. We fuss, fight, disagree but none of us are going anywhere. I know I'm not. Just because I don't agree with folks I work with about things going on in our country doesn't mean I don't love my country and my life here. I think the same can be said for everyone still living in America. I wish there was a way for all of us to have civilized discussion and have true compassion for a different perspective but that doesn't exist. Are we divided? Sure. In a lot of ways. Does it make it difference in our every day way of life? No. Not really. Edited August 30, 201610 yr by PurplePride92
August 30, 201610 yr It's easy to figure out. It's simply cool these days to hate everything that resembles patriotism. Been that way for about a decade it seems. The PC that has overtaken common sense seems to rule the day. The sad thing is, the PC that goes around is usually in the minority but because the squeaky wheel gets the grease those that squeak become the "in" thing to do and the ignorant seem to follow suit. I read an article today about a SC school banning the American flag at a football game because the principal didn't want to offend the visiting team because they had several Mexican players on the team. The Political Correctness these days needs to check into the funny farm because too many people are crazy when it comes to thinking everything offends everyone. Only in our country can you be painted a white trash racist hillbilly for flying ythe flag. I've proudly displayed the American flag since I bought myn first home 12 years ago. My twin brother promptly called me a hillbilly. I rebuttaled with "only in America can I be ridiculed for being proud of where I live". I was very close with my grandfather who was a WWII pacific theater navy vet, the stories he told me, I can never not honor him or others sacrifices. I have two nephews who are black and my little brothers girlfriend is black. I love them all. I'm realistic not racist.
August 30, 201610 yr Here is what I'm thankful for to Kaepernick: Monday AM, while taking my kids to school, "Mike & Mike" were talking a LOT about the entire saga from all sides. Monday night, on the drive home from soccer practice, my son (6th grade) asked why Kaepernick wouldn't stand for the Anthem, and why that made people so angry. The next 20 minutes were some of the coolest we've had together, talking about race relations, the Anthem, our freedoms, who fought for them, and why there were such strong opinions on every side. If Kaepernick's goal was to create conversations that would lead to things improving, as much as I personally don't care for the method he chose to "protest", it may be having some of the results he was hoping for.
