Kaepernick Saga: What Bothers You Most

Featured Replies

Now that the CK saga is a couple of days old which of the following bothers you and which bothers you the most?

Not standing for National Anthem

Claiming blacks are not receiving equal treatment

Citing police shootings as evidence

Using the word "oppressed"

The fact that he is wealthy

The fact that his parents are white

Timing

The fact he's an athlete

If there are others feel free to list them.

Just curious.

Here is what bothers me about it.

I have no problem if you want to protest something and use sitting during the national anthem. That isn't the problem.

The problem I have is the reasoning he gave to why he is protesting.

I saw an article today about Jackie Robinson protesting the national anthem back in 1947 and they tried to compare it as being the same thing CK is protesting when they couldn't be further from the truth.

In 1947 blacks were opressed. Blacks not only had their own bathrooms and drinking fountains as well as blacks couldn't stay in the same hotels as whites or even his own teammates etc and had to sit at the back of the bus etc. there was segregation across the country in 1947. There is none of that today.

I still have not seen from anyone anything close to showing blacks cannot do the same things whites can. There are no separate laws for blacks and whites.

That is what I have an issue with, CK made statements that make it sound as if every black person shot by police were innocent bystanders and the only reason they were shot is because they were black. We all know that isn't true. That is what I don't like his message.

The National Anthem is all about the men who sacrificed everything to keep this country free period. It is a way to honor those who went before us.

If CK is serious then do something. He supports oppressive nations with his hobby of collecting Nike shoes. He is supporting child labor, that is oppression not here when a criminal tries to kill a police

officer and gets shot.

Now if you want to say that all Blacks don't have the same advantages of some whites, I would agree. Environments that lead to tougher roads to get out of certain neighborhoods and lead a fruitful life is very tough for some. At the same

time they still have the same rights as whites and although it may be a tougher path depending on their environment they are raised in, there is opportunity to improve yourself. Education is the biggest helping hand anyone has. So yes, let's protest certain environments and improve lives but the people in those environments have to be willing to help themselves as well.

None of the above. I could not care any less about what CK thinks or does. He's an athlete, I care about whether or not he entertains me or if he helps my fantasy team.

He can do whatever he wants as protest towards whatever he chooses.

The word "oppressed" is way too open ended for my taste. Everyone that is offended by something, claims to be "oppressed". Does oppression exist somewhere, at some level? Sure it does, we don't live in Utopia. Is it widespread as CK wants you and I to believe? I doubt it.

Jackie also said in 1972 that he couldn't stand for the Anthem.

Hard to tell which bothers me the most, because they all do. Hopefully Karma will kick in, he will have a bad season, and get cut from the team. Then he will really have something to whine about.

Jackie also said in 1972 that he couldn't stand for the Anthem.

Jackie grew up with hatred all around him. Some people learn once things have changed they also

change. Jackie may have just been bitter from what he had to put up with growing up.

CK had to deal with none of that.

Its like the whole ideology that African Americans today are owed something because blacks were slaves 200 years ago.

There have been many races enslaved throughout history and even today. Blacks in America today are not one of them.

I would like to ask a counter question. Should I care about this whole thing? Im struggling with finding a reason to care about it.

Let me put it this way Clyde.

I would totally understand if someone who went through all the hatred and OPRESSION Blacks had to deal with in the mid 20th century, especially in the south, to still have a very bad taste when it comes

to this country. Some scars may never heal. But for someone to act as if today is just like it was in the 40's 50's and even the 60's in this country, well unless I live in a cave I just don't see it.

There is racism everywhere around the world. It flourishes in some people and that will never change, but to think this country and its policies support and nurture it I would have a very tough time believing it.

I care about it because kids are watching, and he is influencing them. There are a lot of angry people watching and he validates their anger.

He should play football and show respect his country's flag. If he can't do that, he should have to go back in the locker room during the National Anthem so he can protest all by himself.

It's easy to

figure out.

It's simply cool these days to hate everything that resembles patriotism. Been that way for about a decade it seems.

The PC that has overtaken common sense

seems to rule the day. The sad thing is, the PC that goes around is usually in the minority but because the squeaky wheel gets the grease those that squeak become the "in" thing to do and the ignorant seem to follow suit.

I read an article today about a SC school banning the American flag at a football game because the principal didn't want to offend the visiting team because they had several Mexican players on the team.

The Political Correctness these

days needs to check into the funny farm because too many people are crazy when it comes to thinking everything offends everyone.

- The hyperbolic statement "of bodies lying in the street" with officers getting paid time off and away with murder. Whether he says or even means it, that comes across as officers are willfully hunting African Americans. In the twitterverse for which we live, these type of statements are divisive, not constructive. It is what I feel led him to take this social stand. His statements mirror everything you read and hear daily, his mode of protest simply gave him a louder voice.

- Wearing a Fidel Castro shirt.

Maybe he realized he was going to get cut and thought that the team might feel pressured to keep him if he made this stance. My prediction is that he is out of the league very soon though.

That those of us that disagree with his actions have been painted as racists ourselves.
