Open Job: Mercer County

I'm kinda glad it's now, and not 2 months ago that Coach decided to head to GRC. If it goes down in June, Mercer may not have Trevon Faulkner, or Gunner Gillis for that matter. Idk if Faulkner would have left, but I know that he would have been forced to consider it as an option. As far as Gillis goes, he told his friends at Anderson that he was really excited about basketball after he moved. I'm not sure his excitement would have been the same without a head coach.

I think Mercer will find someone to take over in an interim basis and things will be fine.

Btw, since he's gone and all, I REALLY wish he had not called that time out with

Are we assuming Faulkner is gonna stay?

Gomes would be a good choice. Guy needs a start somewhere, and is ready for his own squad.

I have no way of knowing, but I would only suggest that if it were June, it may be easier to leave and go to prep school? Maybe not, if it's prep school I guess it wouldn't matter that the school year has started.

I will say that I hope he stays, not that he cares what I want, but he sure is a pleasure to watch play

Seriously, parents did not run him off. He made a decision based on family and pay, and opportunity. Give me a break.

Could be a classic cliche of good things come to those who wait.

Not sure Mercer would choose Gomes unless it was an interim deal with a contingency in place. Trevon would have to convincingly stay a Mercer.

Nothing against Gomes just heard from coaches he's had his resume all over the place with no offers.

However, circumstantially, his stock is up. Great news for that young coach. Why not give it to him and see the naysayers proved wrong

There was 13 seconds left and had he not called timeout and Trevon missed the shot or turned it over everyone would be saying he should have called timeout and put the ball in Will Hager's hands. Not to mention Dunbar only had the best player on the floor that night and had he gotten the ball back he likely could have won the game himself as well.

It's easy for all of us to coach after the fact. That one play isn't why Mercer County lost that game.

Give Brian Britt the job back. I thought he got done dirty when he was there.

I agree with the statement that that's not the only reason they lost the game, and I'm not trying to "blame the coach" either. I'm just a fan of letting if play out, without the defense getting set. It was a pure gift that Mercer even had the ball in that situation. Idk why anyone would take a shot, up 1 without a shot clock, and less than 20 sec. Left. But that's how I remember it going down, I meant the complaint to be light hearted and not blame full, but I guess I missed that. I really admire the job coach Cook did, and don't have even the slightest of hard feelings toward him for trying to better himself.

I agree that Hollingsworth was UNSTOPABLE that night!

Hell no. He's fine where he is at. All of the Boyle County coaches are fine where they are at. Mercer County can't have any of our coaches. Hell nah. :D

What about former GRC head coach, Scott Humphrey ?

Not happening. I'd say he isn't too concerned with coaching right now anyways.

It's all good. I just know how Coach Cook has second guessed himself over that moment. For all of the good he did while he was at Mercer County it seems that those last 13 seconds is all people want to talk about. He and that team both deserve better. They had an amazing season. One I'll never forget.

I should have thought about it a little longer, before saying what I did. Coach has earned this new position and I am truly happy for him. I'll try and chose my words better next time. Had I known it had eaten at him so much, I would never have opened that wound again. He's obviously at minimum an acquaintance of yours, so I apologize.

If he is, he shouldn't be.
