North Hardin 21 Boyle County 20 (OT)

Featured Replies

I liked what I saw from Boyle County today. I didn't know what to expect but we saw a team that had a chance to win a game that only a few felt they could win. North Hardin may not be as good as I expected them to be but Boyle County exceeded my expectations today and I feel even better about this season for them after watching them today. And yes, the future looks very promising. More promising than I first thought. I will enjoy these next four years of Reese Smith very very much.

Reese Smith and Landon Bartleson both played very well. Smith's run after the catch for a TD was not something you see from a freshman.

Agreed. I just started laughing after seeing that play. Once Bartleson breaks loose and makes his mark this team and the next four years will be special.

Will have to wait & see how many Lafayette players are suspended from the sideline fight with Dunbar. Heard there were 2 ejections & it was going to be reviewed since multiple players left the bench area.

I agree with Rebel,Boyle will take some lumps this year. North 6A or not,was a very average team at best and the weakest team Boyle will play in the next few weeks. The offensive line has to get better for Boyle to be able to score. Boyle just had a lot of penalties on false starts and got pushed around up front on offense and North didn't have much size The freshman nose guard North had was in the backfield all night. On a positive note Tiller and Ashburn looked solid along with Smith. Not that it matters against Lafayette but I could see Smith making a lot of changes before too long, with personnel and playing both ways.

Boyle may be a little better than expected, North Hardin may not be as good as I thought. Weather was certainly a factor and should have been to Boyle's advantage. NH QB #2 Bankhead is a tremendous athlete, but not a very good QB. But, other than the big receiver #7, North Hardin really doesn't bring much else to the table.

Boyle showed pretty good balance on offense and passing stats would be much better had 3 gimme passes not been dropped. Ashburn is a very good runner when he gets his shoulders square and runs over people and not around them. I thought he read his blocks very well. Getting Crawford back will give Ashburn a breather as well.

Defensively, Boyle was great at the line, the linebacker, and the secondary play. If the D can hold opponents to 14 regulation points per game, the Rebels should be successful.

As well as the special teams played, Boyle needs to improve in long snaps, both punts and XP's. It is clearly a weak spot and will be exploited if not improved.

Very glad the team stayed healthy and hopeful our guys are upbeat as they prepare for a chance to play an elite 6A team in Lafayette in the Rebel Bowl August 27th.

Is Boyle this down?

Maybe one of Boyle's most talented teams problem is the talent is in the freshman and sophomore classes, and a lot of these kids are playing varsity and this team is very young and inexperienced but on the other hand the future looks better than it has in along time

What grade is the starting quarterback Sam Tiller in? Also did anyone happen to catch any stats for the game?

That happens when you lose 8 starters on both sides of the ball. I know it's Boyle County and expectations were high but those of us who are familiar with the team know that it's going to be a difficult first half of the season. The team is young so it may take time.

I think the youth was very evident on Saturday night as the team committed several penalties and other simple mistakes.

Tiller is a Junior. IMO the best QB's on the team are the 2 Freshmen. Just a little too raw for Varsity football right now. Tiller knows the system and knows Pardue's expectations and right now he gives Boyle the best chance to win.

I may be wrong but I think on the block kick N-H were lined up a little different then they were on other kicked.

To Tiller's credit he played a solid game minus the one fumble deep in Boyle territory which I'll attribute to the very wet conditions.
