Boyle County 40 Corbin 21 - 3A State Championship
On the two controversial plays: Potential Corbin interception: Saw a picture on Twitter where the ball was 100% on the ground. It was close but the correct call. Pass interference calls went both ways. Boyle was the more-penalized team tonight and some — particularly on Corbin's first scoring drive — were plain wrong IMO. I will say that the Corbin "fumble-to-incompletion" was the incorrect call. Came down with the ball, fumbled and IIRC it was recovered by Corbin in the end zone. There were calls that went both ways but I don't think there's any question that the best team in 3A won the state championship tonight.

Big players step up on big stages. What a game from Faulkner and co.

Lexington Catholic 56 Garrard County 16
From what I read, that awkward bounce on the kickoff was the beginning of the end. Tough.

Danville 27 Tates Creek 24
I think they really could've done a better job explaining calls -- particularly the inadvertent whistle in the second quarter (at least I think that's what it was). Gave Danville two tries at a 4th and 2. Basically a 14-point swing. Same as the Tates Creek score in the second quarter. Both players say they came down with an interception, officials give it to Tates Creek (I know offense wins if both players have possession, but it looked like Danville had the ball when the players hit the ground, then the two fought for it). Momentum swings were huge this game and I hate that the refs had to make those calls. Tough for both teams.

Boyle County 41 John Hardin 6
Yeah I'm not sure how much we've learned this week, at least in 3A. Deeper than expected? About what we expected? Makes me even more excited for next week. And the week after. And every week.

Still a big IF, but IF Boyle shows up every game like this, they'll make noise in 3A. Great game from the offensive line and defense. Set the tone.

Danville 36 Frederick Douglass 0
Why'd the offense stall? Did FD grow into the game or Danville just relax? Maybe a little bit of both?

Mercer County 53 Harrison County 7
Mercer has some athletes and Gillis can really air it out. I think the Titans' run game will determine just how good they'll be this year. If they run it like they did tonight, they'll have a great year.

Brohm gets another Kentucky recruit, this one out of Boyle County. Big congrats to Will Bramel and his family!

Pulaski County 69 Mercer County 55 (12th Region Championship)
Faulkner had 35 points, 30 in the second half. No other Mercer player scored in double figures.

Boyle County 76 Southwestern 73 (12th Region Quarterfinals)
Boyle's offense was on point. Made Southwestern work on defense all night. Fourth straight year Boyle has made at least the 12th Region semis.

Garrett Dean another one that gave big minutes for Mercer. Titans bench outscored Rockcastle bench 31-3.

Mercer County 59 West Jessamine 56 (46th District Championship)
18-3 in the 4th, 10-5 in the second quarter. Dalton Bruner went out in the third quarter with an injury which really hurt West's ability to get into an offense. Gunnar Gillis scored 10 points in the fourth, he had 13. Trevon Faulkner scored 31 but uncharacteristically struggled from the line ... was 6-for-15 by my count. West had nine different players score, all more than 4 points, none more than 9.

Boyle County 67 Danville 56
Yeah that's for sure, Boyle was the more aggressive team from the start. But Danville's a driving team as well (they definitely settled more in the second half), that's why it's so shocking to me.

Boyle County 67 Danville 56
Boyle statisticians had 43 rebounds for the Rebs, 17 for Danielle Roney. Gamechanger. Emmie Harris with 23 points to lead all scorers. Rebels also shot 39 FT's to Danville's 7. Even with Boyle shooting the bonus at the end I think that's pretty crazy.

Lincoln County 65 Casey County 58
Noah Young was big once again (surprise) for Lincoln. Had 33 points, 23 in the first half when Casey's offense was going. Jake Smith had 22 points to lead Casey. Was honored with a 2,000 point basketball and the all-time Casey leading scorer title before the game. Riley Bodner was the x-factor for Lincoln. Frosh came in and had seven blocks, most in the second half.

Both games are wrong on the scoreboard, oddly enough. Lincoln won both games but the scoreboard says otherwise.

Lexington Catholic 61 Lincoln County 60
Noah Young with 29, Luke Johnson 14. Johnson was 5-for-15 from the field, Young 11-for-20. Just looking at the box score, looks like a great game. Lincoln made a run late. 13 lead changes, seven ties.

Danville 41 Lincoln County 39
Danville led 20-8 after one quarter, 28-20 at halftime. Lincoln led 36-33 after three quarters. Danville missed two-straight front ends in the fourth quarter up two. That could've been huge. Tanner Ford did a great job on Lincoln's final play. Not sure if he tipped the ball or not but Noah Young didn't have a clean catch and had to heave a shot from near half court. Young led all scorers with 25, no one else from Lincoln had more than 8. Devin Alcorn fouled out with four points. Danville led by Jared Southerland's 15. Zach T had 10, David Walker and Ford each with 6.

Casey County 73 Woodford County 65
Seems like Max Reyes is really scoring more recently... He and Jake Smith each had 20 points. Rebels starting to roll late in the year... Sounds familiar.

Lincoln County's 2-3 zone is the difference. Some great coaching but those players stay active for all 32 minutes.
-
Lincoln County 112 Boyle County 110
The KHSAA stat book says 210 is the record but that Scott County/Fern Creek game adds up to 215. Either way, Lincoln County and Boyle County just cleared it by seven points. Just the second game ever where both teams scored 100. Was an incredible game to watch. Tons of threes, and-ones, free throws, fouls, everything.

Boyle County 72 Garrard County 66 (2OT)
45th is crazy. Yeah Lincoln has the advantage but Garrard (and Mr. Ryan Young) showed how to slow them down earlier this week. Parker Dailey had a game! Crazy how much he's improved in the last year.
