July 29, 201610 yr It's hard to believe, but Hinckley hasn't been in prison. He's been in a psychiatric hospital, and was never convicted of the crimes. He was found not guilty by insanity, and never did any prison time. I guess his doctors have determined he's no longer a threat to himself or others and the judge just followed their advice. Correct. Apparently those who are paid to know best don't think he is a threat to anyone.
July 29, 201610 yr Listened to a story on NPR discussing Hinkley and his release. The reporter discussed a couple of points that were concerning. 1. He has been on supervised visits where he was allowed to visit stores, go to movies, etc. One instance he was supposed to be watching a movie. The Secret Service officer found him in a Barnes and Noble STARING at a section that had several books about political assassinations. 2. His mother lives on the 13th hole of a golf course that several presidents have frequented and is also a PGA stop. (I think Windy Hills) All about justice and doing your time but this is one of the crimes that basically eliminates any chance at freedom.

Apparently closer to the case than our resident BGP savants have determined that those proclivities and fantasies are either no longer active within Mr Hinckley or no longer pose a realistic threat. I'll defer to them and try not to worry about Johnny.

Regarding #1, don't you think that he'd be interested in what was written about himself? This is probably a bit of a twisted question, but I wonder if they let him watch Jodie Foster movies?
