Introducing Your New Spalding 2016 Forward Game Ball

Featured Replies

Would love to know the money the KHSAA gets off playing this game ball.

Does it matter? Whatever ball they use will have a contract and money attached to it.

Couple coaches I talk to say they are not gonna use the ball during season.

Not as much as you think. Its more about the free stuff and supplies than the $$$$ in these type of deals at these lower level events.

Take the old wire brush to it. :D

Actually, they should use a rubberized red-white-blue ABA ball like we used on the playgrounds back in the day! There I go again.

Would using these balls in practice help break them in? At the very least the players would be able to get used to them and adjust to them. I haven't seen the ball yet but judging from the comments it sounds like these balls need to go through NFL QB treatment before being used in a game. Most schools only use game balls for in game use only. Sounds like using these bad boys in practice often will be a must.

It's like the difference in a fake leather couch and a real one.

and one stuffed with padding and the other applied directly to the boards. These balls are just bad, my son, a PG, hates them and I think most other players will as well

It has the feel, sound, and look of an indoor/outdoor ball.

I searched and found the prior thread. Here is the info:

These are the official balls according to @sweet16

The adopted products are:

Baseball - Spalding TF Pro HS Baseball (41-100HS)

Basketball-B - Spalding TF1000 Classic (74-7849)

Basketball-G - Spalding TF1000 Class 28.5 (74-7839)

Football - Spalding Alpha -72-6758

Softball - Spalding Dudley Thunder Heat-Polycore (43-147)

I'm pretty sure the boys should be the 74-7839 and the girls the 74-7849.

The model #s were cut and pasted from an email from the KHSAA.

This is the ball they used at AAU nationals this year. Very slick.

It would be interesting to hear the change analysis and decision factors. Done by coaches? Done by marketing staff? Actual performance measures vs here is who is using it (aka, here is who they have already bought). Most of us are naturally resistant to change and admittedly need to be open to new opportunities. Hope this decision was not monetarily misguided.

I know the first thing my son said, he is a guard, was the feel and touch were awful for the new balls. The old balls were soft and had a good dribble feel he said, easy to pass off the bounce and get it into the shooting pocket to shot. The new ball, I purchased one for him, is very hard, and very slick, which makes life harder for a person who relies on the feel of the ball to help his game. Any way, just thought I would throw his thoughts out there since he has played with both.

He is NOT a fan.

Anybody like the ball? I have not heard a single person say they have

If anyone likes that ball, it's a player with a broken shot who will be happy winning 29-27

"Spalding representatives say that the KHSAA stamp will not be added until 2017-18 and that this season's balls will be provided out of current inventories."

We can't sell these things and need to clear the warehouses.
