Why It's Time to Repeal The 2nd Amendment

Featured Replies

I don't think it was ever meant to prevent the government from regulating firearms. It was only in 2008 that the Supreme Court endorsed a form of this interpretation.

So then your answer to my question in Post#8 would be you don't believe we should ever change anything, correct?

Texas will succeed from the union before this ever happens.

And can do so without fear of recrimination, they are voluntarily a member of the United States. Their land was not bought or won.

If someone terrorizes you because of your freedom, giving up your freedom in hopes they stop terrorizing you is not a wise decision in my opinion.

Not sure that's correct. They lost a couple of cases at the high court. Not to mention that little treaty they signed to get back in the Union in 1865.

On this we agree (somewhat).

Question to those who immediately and adamantly oppose:

Do you believe the Constitution and its Amendments are still relevant to Today's world, up to the point that they should never be reconsidered?

Crazy to think a document that is 200+ years old doesn't need adjusted in some ways. People and society evolve, so should our laws. I don't support repealing the 2nd amendment though.

The government disarmed the American Indian. How'd that work out for them?

I wouldn't be opposed to limiting magazines to 4 round max. Whatever you're legally allowed to hunt with should be it.

I wouldn't be opposed to getting rid of "assault" weapons. I wouldn't ever buy one, as I don't see a practical use for it.

Otherwise, I like my guns.

The 2 Amendment has nothing to do about hunting, it is about protection. The assault rifles are well regulated and in the hands of the military. I understand there are some old machine guns in private hands, as there is a machine gun shoot near Louisville every year. AR-15s are not assault rifles.

Maybe not an exact quote, R. Reagan, "The duty of government is to protect the people, not rule over them."

And the folks who think the bad guys will not get their hands on guns are FOOLS! The strong willed criminals and terrorists will buy guns on the black market. Armed citizens are the deterrent that prevent more loss of life.

If anything we need more guns in properly trained hands not less...wake up Merica!!!

Paging wounded knee creek... Anyone want to try and defend that?

According to the Congressional Research Service, there are roughly twice as many guns per capita in the United States as there were in 1968: more than 300 million guns in all. Gun sales have increased in recent years.

Guns In America, By The Numbers : NPR

Yet mass shooting are up in record numbers. Seems to be working well.

99.999% of legal gun owners killed no one today.

Face it, the only people new laws or even repealing the 2nd all together will impact are those 99.999%.

Criminals and would be terrorist I doubt would be turning in their guns.

A start would be to enforce all current gun laws, but you know why we don't. Because it would add to an already over crowded prison system and many of you would be screaming bloody murder because enforcement targeted the poor and down trodden...without admitting the only people being targeted are actually criminals.
