June 14, 201610 yr How is France a great example? Per New York Times, "Last year’s Paris attacks killed 130 people, which is nearly as many as die from gun homicides in all of France in a typical year. But even if France had a mass shooting as deadly as the Paris attacks every month, its annual rate of gun homicide death would be lower than that in the United States." I've been to France several times. There are armed military personnel at the airport, the mall, busy downtown areas. American citizen would have a cow if armed military personnel were patrolling.
June 14, 201610 yr Not we, criminals.... How are you getting their guns first? If the govt wants your guns they will take them. Moot point. Will criminals have guns? They sure will, but if it's against the law and you don't want to be a criminal you won't have any.
June 14, 201610 yr The Next Time Someone Calls an AR-15 an Assault Rifle, Show Them This Give it another couple of years and assault may be a kind term for this weapon. I've been to France several times. There are armed military personnel at the airport, the mall, busy downtown areas. American citizen would have a cow if armed military personnel were patrolling. You mean like at airports and large events? Seems like we could get used to it.

They sure will, but if it's against the law and you don't want to be a criminal you won't have any. That's the best answer you got. That's your problem thinking they can do it, the government is not taking guns from millions of people...moot point.
June 14, 201610 yr If the govt wants your guns they will take them. Moot point. Will criminals have guns? They sure will, but if it's against the law and you don't want to be a criminal you won't have any. Guess I'll be a criminal along with millions of others.
June 14, 201610 yr If the govt wants your guns they will take them. Moot point. Will criminals have guns? They sure will, but if it's against the law and you don't want to be a criminal you won't have any. And you think leaving all the guns in the hands of criminals only is a good thing?
June 14, 201610 yr That's the best answer you got. That's your problem thinking they can do it, the government is not taking guns from millions of people...moot point. To pass an amendment you would need a huge majority of states. Since we are talking in hypotheticals you would be in the minority, which would make the confiscation of your guns fairly easy. If the majority of Americans were against the Amendment it wouldn't pass anyway. So no reason to even fantasize about fighting big brother.
June 14, 201610 yr And you think leaving all the guns in the hands of criminals only is a good thing? I'm actually playing devils advocate a little. I said early in the thread I don't support repealling the amendment. But I do believe we over exaggerate our need for guns here a little. Especially certain types.
June 14, 201610 yr Give it another couple of years and assault may be a kind term for this weapon. You mean like at airports and large events? Seems like we could get used to it. No everyday at the mall. Walking around down town. At the big box IKEA stores. On the train.

The purpose was to prevent an oppressive government from disarming American citizens and creating a dictatorship. I would hope no one would want a country that is under the thumb of its government. The government should protect us physically by protecting our borders and being more diligent in going after the bad guys. Then thereby preserving our freedoms and liberties.
June 14, 201610 yr Let me ask a question thats slightly off the topic but feel its relevant here. Why do you guys think these mass shootings are happening?
June 14, 201610 yr Trust me, when an armed man breaks into your house in the middle of the night and threatens your wife and/or kids, you'll be thankful for the 2nd amendment. There's nothing worse than bringing a baseball bat to a gun fight.
