Here's my proposition IF/AFTER all districts seed. I don't know if this would work in districts, but in region I would like to see it happen.

 

Right now the KHSAA lets you play 36 games, my idea would be to shorter the season to 30.

 

Then in region, you play a 3 game series, three days in a row. The system is flawed to where the best team doesn't win, but the team with the best pitcher wins. Maybe it could work in district

 

Extend a week of the postseason and shorten the regular season by a week.

 

Again, save the criticism for this is just a raw idea. But I think we can all agree it favors the team with the best pitcher, not the best overall team.

 

The Coach at Tates Creek also said the same thing.

Districts be double elimination, so 2 team districts are best of 3 series. Only District winner moves on.

 

Regionals would then be a 4 team double elimination. Region winner moves on

 

Instead of the first weekend of state tournament, you now have 4, 4 team brackets to be played at host sites on a rotation basis called Sectionals in a double elimination format. You could do 1-4, 5-8, 9-12, and 13-16 regions or 1,3,5,7 then 2,4,6,8 then 9,11,13,15 then 10, 12,14,16 or any other possible scenario you want. Those 4 winners move to Whitaker Bank Park for

 

The state tournament being one of two scenarios. The 2 winners play 3 game series for title or double elimination tournament.

Absolutely. Unless you try to add multiple classes to basketball.

I don't know how you would do it, but I would love to see a three game series. Switch between sites to make it more interesting..

If your old enough you might remember that there used to be sectionals and they went away from them.

I think the only way baseball is changed is if it's changed to a double elimination like softball.

 

Don't be surprised if the state tournament would have to be moved to high schools sites so that two games can be played at a time and those who lose might have to play two games in one day.

 

Districts and regionals won't be changed to double elimination unless the KHSAA were to allow softball to go that route.

I was going to put this in the Beechwood/Highlands 9th region final thread but decided to put it here as its not really about the game.

 

Should Beechwood even have been in the finals? Or the regionals for that matter? As it seemed that the thinking was 5 run or more losses were said to be the deciding point of not being close, and since Beechwood lost 7-1.

 

The fact that all baseball teams are in one class is enough for me, as I think it would be very rare that a sub par team would win a region. I'm happy with this set up with all teams playing for one title, but I am also glad for the All A, as isn't that still about half of the states teams? It's not as bad as football with 6 classes.

 

In baseball a 5 or so run lead can disappear within one inning, as we saw when Beechwood played Conner this week, didn't they score 5 runs in a late inning? In football it would be a lot harder to come back from a 3 or so TD deficit.

 

All and all I have no issues with the baseball playoffs, and I like how as in basketball that the district runner-up also qualifies for the region, all districts are not the same, some will have two or more deserving teams to advance to the regional. Such as with NCC/Highlands and Conner/Ryle, it would be a crime so to speak not to have the runner up in their districts in the regional, and let's not forget about CovCath as a runner up to Beechwood this year.

Agreed. Shorten the season just a few games and double elimination. But single elimination the best TEAMs have a shot instead of the best pitcher.

Disagree....and by the way, 5 runs isn't a blowout...in high school baseball.

I'd love to a series played in baseball as long as it doesn't turn into the playoffs from the movie "Baseketball"

I'd love for double elimination like the CWS does it. Would require many more games, though.

This is the problem I have, a lot are saying what is best for the SCHOOLS. What is best for the KIDS? No kid wants to lose by 24 in baseball or 64 (78-14 GRC vs St. Pat in GBB at regionals) in basketball. Show me any other sport at any level where regular season games do not matter?
