This has all come about because Bracken County is tired of being matched up with Mason County and losing. Just settle down. The days of being in a district with Augusta, Deming (now Robertson County) and Pendleton County are not coming back. Enjoy the coming basketball season. Then enjoy going back to reality and having it be a draw for the district matchups because you are going to need that 2 in 3 chance of getting Augusta or St. Patrick.

Go back and look at how many one or two run games BC was in before you start talking about the 12-19 record. Could have easily been 19-12. Play Harrison lost 4-0. Played Campbell lost 5-4. Played Mason 3 times two were 5+ run losses but had one game 2-1.

I am and always have been a 100% seed guy. I was mega critical of Mont. Co. selfishly able to manipulate the 10th Region basketball tournament to their school. It was not in the best interest of 10th Region fans, majority of teams, nor financially beneficial to any school other than Mont. Co. However, they got the tournament because they operated within the rules established. Best for them financially (to all other schools detriment), homecourt advantage, inconvenient for most regional fans, and yet Mont. Co. Was able to garner the District votes to pull it off. They win, everybody else loses (except on the court and homecourt advantage didn't payoff). I don't like it one iota, but I totally respect their actions.

 

Mont. Co. officials did exactly what they should have done. They put their program and teams first and foremost. That is exactly what Augusta and St. Pat have done in their seed/draw vote. As to the 39th District being weak in a down 10th Region, I will standby that position. Mason Co. District Champ loses to 36th District runner-ups, Scott, a sub-.500 team and they will play in Regional Championship game.

 

Bracken Co. was definitely the 2nd best team with a 12-18 record against a very weak schedule. Their wins came against St. Pat (2-11) by forfeit; 1 win, 1 loss against Villa Madonna (9-13); 2 wins against Calvary Christian (15-17); 1 win Robertson Co. (3-15); 2 wins Pendleton Co. ((4-18); 1 win, 2 losses Fleming Co. (9-18); 2 losses Lewis Co. ((12-20); 1 win Fairview (6-24); 1 win Holmes (10-25); and 1 win, 1 loss Nicholas Co. (14-14). Overall record for BCs schedule was 84 wins against 180 losses.

 

From any perspective, BC's schedule of victories is against very low level baseball schools. So, before the scales of justice get distorted too badly, let the record speak for itself. Bracken was a bad baseball team; however it was far superior to St. Pat and Augusta and that is exactly why they vote for the draw.

Look at who Bracken County played: And let me remind you, Bracken lost 4-3 to Campbell County 4-3, the same team that beat the hell out of Augusta

OK so draw or seed, there are only 3 districts who have the choice and have chosen to draw, make it even across the board and force seeding.

 

The real question should be why doesn't Softball and Baseball go to a double elimination district and regional tournaments? Where only the district winners move on to the regional tournament.

As to your point about seeing teams you mentioned I was opining on just their records. Saw Scott twice, Campbell Co. once, Brossart once, Harrison Co. twice, Mason once, Rowan Co. twice, Bourbon once, Fleming once. Talk to coaches Like Mac Whitaker, Danny Trame, Nelson Farris, etc. They will tell you the 10th is way down, while the 9th and NKy are relatively strong. In fact there is a distinct possibility that a NKy team will win the 8th, 9th and 10th regions.

NKY always wins the 9th

 

This happened in 2014 when SK, Scott and Conner won the region.

Scott started the year with an unexpected and underperforming 4-14, and has come on strong to make the 10th Region Championship. Evened their record at 17-17. 10-3 record against 10th Region teams offset with a 7-14 record against non-10th. With either Trame or Ohmer on the bump, they can be highly competitive. Rain postponment of Camels vs GRC Semis until Friday pushes Championship to Saturday giving Scott availability of both big arms, while Camels could be short staffed. Huge break for the Eagles.

Here's my proposition IF/AFTER all districts seed. I don't know if this would work in districts, but in region I would like to see it happen.

 

Right now the KHSAA lets you play 36 games, my idea would be to shorter the season to 30.

 

Then in region, you play a 3 game series, three days in a row. The system is flawed to where the best team doesn't win, but the team with the best pitcher wins. Maybe it could work in district

 

Extend a week of the postseason and shorten the regular season by a week.

 

Again, save the criticism for this is just a raw idea. But I think we can all agree it favors the team with the best pitcher, not the best overall team.
