The Falcons had two more really good years in '81 & '82, going a combined 20-3. They were beaten by Mayfield in the playoffs both seasons.

 

Fort Campbell is an interesting case. They've had some good seasons scattered out here and there, but the bulk of their history seems to be tied up in two strong runs in '76-'80 and '07-'09. They have their ups and downs, but when they're good, they're really good.

1991 was the year that GRC won it all. They knocked Trinity out of the playoffs and then best St.X in the title game.

Breathitt returned the favor in 1998 by beating them (Before losing to Danville)

 

Lawrence moved up to 3A in 1999 and made a run to the Semi-Finals with that record setting team before getting smacked by Highlands.

 

Lawrence had some very good teams in the late 90's under Chuke Williams.I remember the 99 team coming into Belfry and destroying the Pirates by like 50 points. If memory serves me they also destroyed Ashland, Bell, and Rockcastle in the same season and had a flukey loss to Jim Matney's Sheldon Clark team. I think they put up over 35 points in every single game except that Sheldon Clark loss and if memory serves me they scored 60's and 70's for most of the year. That was the team with Gerad Parker who set the all-time receiving record..they also had a young Michael West, former WKU QB Short, and Miami(OH) Dante Wright.

I'm 100% positive it was Lawrence County. I've heard numerous Bobcat fans say that the '97 team was the most talented team they've ever had in Jackson. Not to take anything away from Lawrence County, but if I recall, the field conditions(very muddy) benefited the Bulldogs style of play more than Breathitt's.

I watched Breathitt County obliterate Belfry at the start of the year in 1997 in Jackson for the Honey Bowl. The week prior Belfry had given Louisville Male all they wanted and only lost 7-0 in the Pike County Bowl. The Honey Bowl game was super hyped by WYMT and had a massive crowd. Was supposed to be #1 and #2 in EKY and Breathitt just flat beat the brakes off Belfry with Kyle Moore at QB.

I got an up close and personal look at the '97 & '98 Bulldog teams. Their level of physicality and execution on offense was devastating. In '98, they hung 64 points on us in Louisa, the most points ever scored on Russell under Ivan McGlone.

Barring upsets, Belfry, Bowling Green, and Trinity should add to their current dynasties this year.

Did not read through all the replies but currently the Bowling Green Purples are 81 and 3 since 2011. Two of the three losses were by 1 Point.

 

A handful of people connected to the program feel that the Purples could be at the beginning stages (23 game winning streak) of another spectacular run.
