2016 will be telling on what direction the ship is going.

B-. Regular season for many teams could have resulted in a total fold. Birds overcame total embarrassment to their normal program standards, to perform admirably in playoffs. Think these guys can look proudly back in giving it their best, and isn't that the primary lesson we all learned in football.

They turned it around and made a great run.

I have Highlands in the C+, B- range. I have to give them some credit for how they finished the season. I definitely didn't expect them to give Pulaski County the game they gave them. Those regular season beat downs are hard to forget though. I can't go higher an B- and can't go lower than a C.

 

I'm thinking those beat downs (as you call them) helped in preparing the Birds for the 5A playoffs. Just curious, are your grades based on the whole season or the finished product. What about the teams that were expected to be better than they were, and had their season end earlier than predicted? Should their grades be lower than what your grades are for Highlands? After reading your post again, the beat downs seemed to have an effect on your grading. I'm just looking for clarification, that's all. Not much difference in our grades, were good.

Big turnaround from a 1-5 start. Made the Semi's and were a half away from the finals with a team many considered to be much less talented than the previous 5-7 years.

I'm grading the whole season.

 

I gave BG an A- instead of an A+ solely on their loss to St. X and how they lost that game.

 

I gave South Warren an A because they are a 5A school playing in 4A and they should have smacked everyone the way they did.

 

I gave Pulaski County a B because I felt they should have played better against Highlands and North Laurel but in my Highlands grade I gave Highlands credit for defeating Pulaski County which puts Highlands in the C+, B- range. Had Pulaski County played better against North Laurel and Highlands I'd have given them a B+, A-.

What about grading by subject? Did any aspect of their game stand out as better than a C+ or B-?

I would give Highlands a C+ which is the grade most teachers give a student for a test that they tried hard on and studied for, but still got a bunch of answers wrong.

 

8-6, but some of those losses were ugly. Also, the way they lost the game to Pulaski factors in

IMO, its tough to issue a standard grade to Highlands. Typically they operate on a different plain than most programs with all the success they've had. If you grade their season based upon past performance......I believe their grade is a D+/C-. No way did they play to the level their history dictates. However, if you apply the measuring stick one would to most programs......probably a solid B.

Ill give them a D didn't beat a single team with a winning record.

If you asked a lot of the Highlands faithful, I'm sure they'd possibly put it in the D to C+ range.

 

If you look at their post season run and how close they came, it's got to be a B+.

 

But, they really fell short of their normal results in the regular season. I like the idea of averaging the 2 semester together, with a little more weight on the post season, since those games count for just a little bit more.

 

B-. Not the Highlands we all know, but not that far off either. I would have loved to have seen the game against Pulaski.

I too would give Highlands a B- as they took all their lumps in the first 6 games of the year and started 1 and 5 for one of the first times ever against very good competition.

Got to visit their stadium for the first time ever for the Pulaski Co game and it is a Top 10 Bucket list stadium to go to in KY. I expected Pulaski to control that game, but they did not and all H fans should be proud of that. I also say that if H played a cupcake schedule that they would have gotten smoked by Pulaski as going through the fire as they did toughened them for the playoffs.

If this resume was put before Allen County Scottsville it would be at least a B+. Highlands microscope is much tougher.

Maybe more telling than grade for the season would be their "class rank" out of 101 years of HHS football.

From the group that couldn't really explain what adjustments Pulaski made in the second half of the semi-final game to handle Highlands better? But, now can discern the difference between a C and a C+ season? I'm calling . . . never mind.
