A few things to keep in mind about Trump being the highest GOP primary votes ever. First more people are voting in primaries than ever....population continues to grow, and is more than double what it was in the 1950's. Also, primaries have become a bigger and bigger part of the election process, which has lead to greater participation. Another key point, is that typically, the nomination gets locked up fairly early, which leads to less participation in the later primaries. The fact that the nomination still hasn't (officially) been locked up, has led to many more people voting. However, the key point in all of this, is despite the fact that Trump will likely end up with the highest vote total ever, he will also likely end up as the nominee with the lowest percentage of votes won in the history of the primary system.

 

When you really dig a little into the numbers, it becomes pretty clear, that the fact that Trump has won so many votes, doesn't mean as much as one would initially think, and in fact uncovers some real problems moving forward. It's pretty easy to argue that the number of votes is not really related to "excitement" that Trump has generated. And that is backed up by the number of people that readily admit they don't like him, and the fact that many in the party aren't endorsing him.

 

Keep telling yourself that...and you may be right. Remember he is running against HRC, who has drummed up basically NO excitement on the Dem side. Her negatives are almost as much as Trump's and the FBI is not even done yet.

 

But you have nothing to worry about...you have already figured out that Trump has no shot...relax and enjoy him getting crushed...

I'm not predicting anything. I'm not even sure who I'm voting for. Trump has defied the odds, and already pulled off something nobody thought he would do. I'm not counting him out.

 

You are right in that HRC is quite unlikeable herself. And as I've said before, the more people see of her, I think the more unlikeable she becomes.

 

My only point was that Trump having gotten the most primary votes ever , doesn't tell the whole story and really doesn't point to him winning this thing. And again, I'm not saying he can't.

Agree totally with you that mine and Will's politics don't exactly align; however, the points he made about Trump's troubles moving forward are all very valid.

In a field of 17 candidates, that is domination.

No worries, though. We just agree to disagree.

In the last 7 states when it was just the three of them left, he got over 50% in EVERY state and over 60% in some. In the five state sweep the week before last, he won every county of every state. In Indiana, which a couple of weeks before the primary most people thought was in Cruz' favor, he dominated and won all but about 4 counties. That is not a plurality, that is domination. It does not really make a difference now though...
