When the dust settles and tempers calm down and especially when the reality of an HRC dominated Supreme Court looms, R's will come around. A lot of what you are hearing now is political posturing. The establishment wants Trump to dump his entire policy agenda that he ran on. They expect him to become one of them, lie to get elected.

 

Potential Supreme Court nominees is the only reason that makes me pause in saying NO, HECK, NO to Trump. As a conservative, I definitely won't vote for Hillary. To be honest, I ain't so sure of the kind of Supreme Court justices that Trump will appoint. One would hope they are strict constitutionalists like Scalia, but I have no faith in Trump to believe he would actually appoint people I could support. He is more likely to do so than Hillary, I do acknowledge. Thus the reason for pause.

 

That's not what I'm seeing at all. Most of my friends are republicans and none of them are supporting Trump. Most have said that they will support Mrs. Clinton. A few are going third party.

 

Then I am ignorant. Plus you might as well vote for her too. Your third party candidate( who I like ok) has no shot and is just a vote for Hillary. And if you dont see that then ignorance abounds.

 

There is one other choice available to those who won't vote Hillary or Trump. As a conservative, I won't vote Hillary. Neither am I inclined to vote Trump. He does not represent my values and I don't want to be responsible for putting him in office. In this case, the lesser of three evils may be to write in a candidate rather than vote for either major party candidate.

 

I know this will not lead to a candidate of my choosing or of whom I can support for President. But that is the point. Both parties need to know that the people they put forward are NOT ACCEPTABLE. How will the Republican party learn this if I continue to vote for the person they put forward? This year, their choice is different than the usual fare, but is not more palatable to me. In the past, they put forward moderate candidates that are too malleable and refused to stand up for principle (Cruz at least had this going for him, he has backbone). This year they put forward a narcissist that holds to one principle, whatever he perceives is best for him at the moment. This explains why he changes opinions so easily.

 

So a write-in vote at least communicates to the Republican party the kind of candidate I will support in the future and demonstrates the kind of candidate I will not support now. The next 4 years are lost with either candidate (as far as the things I hold as important). I am thinking further down the road. Perhaps the next four years will open up people's eyes (what am I thinking--that's crazy talk).

Did you ever consider who these delegates in Cleveland actually are? C-J published a list of Kentucky's GOP delegates recently. They're all pretty much established party hacks -- Mitch, Bevin, Bevin's wife, Massie, etc. You think they're going to (a) cheer with wild abandon for a candidate who likely will denounce the party platform ... or (b) take the first flight back to CVG? My money's on (b).

I heard someone today say that in for Trump to win he needs to get about 40% of the Hispanic vote. Seems like that's not going to happen.

 

Depends on which Hispanics are voting. The legal ones, or the non legal ones.

Kinda thought the social issues may be a sticking point for you, but wanted to put another option out there to consider.

 

I'm completely cool with everyone voting for whomever they feel best represents them, (even if that person is Trump ), I just hate the fact that so many people think it's an A or B option. The reality is there are so many alternatives and worthy options available, people just need to look for them.

If you are a liberal and dont vote for the liar Hillary then you are not much of a liberal. All the full blown Dems on here make no bones about who they are voting for as do the Republicans. I at least can respect that. No third party can win. Throw your vote away if you will, but not me.
