I agree the buyout is huge. But, Barnhart is a quality AD and is probably greatly conflicted by his personal desire to see all his coaches succeed in life as well as their programs. Will bet his stomach is giving him many restless nights. Mitchell has earned another year; but, only with a promise of personal change. I suspect that is a huge conflict, and I respect that. Interesting decisions still to be made.

Herald article this morning noted her release of schools still being considered.....UK was not on the list.

I don't know if firing him will fix the damage that has been done. When recruits from 2017 and 2018 are marking UK off of their list and haven't stepped foot on the campus that is a problem. How many recruits put UK back on the list if they fire Mitchell?

Not sure if he deserves that shot or not. With basically only 5 players back and recruits not wanting to come here with him here it is almost impossible to right the ship anytime soon and probably will take a few years if that.

Futurecoach, your last sentence has been on my mind for a while. It might be dead on, and that is one of the many conflicts he and Barnhardt have to be wrestling with.

Barring any injuries they can still win 20+ games next year with the current roster. If he was smart he would push the fact that he has done a great job with a limited roster the past two years. He/Uk has not been overly open with the sports writers for the past few years( Jen Smith in particular) so bring them back into the fold, they will eat it up again and have them spread the word of how great of a job they have done with less. End of next year , move on get a new job( many will open next year as the great rash of 70+ jobs 4/5 years ago will be coming up for review and may will be fired again). Maybe even get a raise. Leave the next coach in shambles to rebuild.

Agreed! Even though this doesn't look good. The fact is he has done a very good job with the UK program. So unless some big story comes out about something bad that happened, he should be able to go land another good job. Other schools will see his resume and he would land a good job still. So it really could be in the best interest for him and UK to go in different directions.
