If these teams are trading all of these picks for completely unproven QB's, doesn't it make sense that a more proven quarterback like McCarron should get you at least 3 picks?

As much as the Bengals like McCarron and think very highly of them. I doubt the Bengals would trade McCarron to a division rival to make them better even if they were to get the number 8 pick.

 

The Bengals love Hue but since Hue went to a Division rival I doubt the Bengals do much to try to help them out. Especially giving them a possibly a good qb.

 

If the Browns were dumb enough to give the 8th pick in the draft to the Bengals for McCarron, the Browns GM would be fired instantly and the Bengals would throw parties in the name of the Browns stupidity.

True.....but Bradford is basically there under a one year deal, and Daniel's presence makes sure whoever they get at #2 won't have to play right away when Bradford has to miss time (which he almost certainly will). If Bradford has a good season, he's trade bait to get some picks back. If he gets hurt or doesn't play well, he simply gets cut. The Eagles have also been one of the best teams at managing the cap, so if any team could handle spending a lot of money at the QB spot, the Eagles are certainly a team that can do that.

 

This deal also takes some pressure off the new coach, and shows that the organization is willing to get him his QB, and patient enough to let him sit a year and learn the system.

 

Sure it's a risky move whenever you give up that many picks. But the NFC is down, and with the issues that the other teams have, there's a good chance they won't have a bargaining chip like the #8 pick next year to work with. The Eagles needed to make a splash, and rework the roster to get Chip Kelly's fingerprints washed away. As a lifelong Eagles fan, I have no problem with the deal.

Disagree. I think the Bengals even view Mccarron as a guy who will be a good starter in this league. So the last thing they want to do is help the Browns finally solve their qb probelms they have had since they became a franchise again.

Browns have wanted more picks all along. A second round qb will save them a bunch of money. They have had no luck with first round qbs.

 

True, but they haven't picked a QB that high up in the draft. They have three that they picked at #22. Only Couch was that high (#1) in 1999.

 

I have to admit I am disappointed. I loved the idea of them getting a top QB and seeing if they could develop him. However, I can't fault the logic in what they did. This is a franchise that has needs EVERYWHERE. You build through the draft. After the Rams established the going rate, the Browns knew they wanted to shop their #2 pick and parlayed it into a lot of good options. They will choose six of the top 100 players in the draft this year (unless they package some picks to move around to get someone they really want). They have a 1st rounder next year and a 2nd rounder in 2018.

 

This isn't the kind of thing that is immediately evident to fans, but is probably the smartest way to build the team. It's just that if you pick at 2 and get lucky to find a franchise qb, that is evident to everyone. If the QB that is available at #2 turns out to be the next John Elway, then ...

The Browns need more picks than just a qb. OL, RB, WR, LB, DB and QB are needs right now for the Browns.

I would rather see them draft Jake Coker, Cook or Brandon Doughty in a later round.

When the Rams did the RGIII deal they showed who really wins these deals. They got 8 players in this deal and most started or provided quality depth. The QB they get was going to have to sit anyways, why not get a Hackenberg, a Cook, a Cardale Jones that can do that? I'd like to see them take Cardale. He's from Cleveland.

Being a closet Browns fan, I agree. Stockpile the picks and build through the draft. If they draft smart, this can get them back to respectability in 2-3 years. The jury's out though. It's Cleveland after all. A guy can hope though.

Yes I am. The Bengals are not in rebuilding mode and need to try to stock up draft picks, etc. On top of that they don't need to help a team in their own division that they have to play twice a year get a qb.
