Urban Meyer endorses Cardale Jones

Featured Replies

Not sure why he felt it was necessary to chime in about his time as a scholar. I think most knew his #1 priority was #12. He told us so in a tweet.

This is being blown out of proportion. IMO Meyer worded it poorly, but he essentially said Jones has a high football IQ but that he's not very book smart. I don't think it was a shot at him.

We all get what he was saying, but in a position that teams greatly value high intelligence, his comments were not necessary.

On this board Meyer is followed as much as Coach Cal.

I took it as Meyer had an issue with Jones possibly not attending classes? I guess we can assume Meyer will also call out others that do the same?

No.

Yeah, didn't think so. Just tossing stuff at the wall...

Ben Simmons missed class and it was pretty much the end of the world.

It was an odd statement. Not sure what the point was as the comment would have been complete without that tidbit.... almost a backhanded compliment. Some teams, who look for any excuse to drop a player in the draft, may hold that against him.

This.

How does it help the kid; especially just a few days before the draft? If you feel compelled to say it, say it after the draft.

How does it help the school?

There are many college coaches who get very frustrated with their players who refuse to go to class.

I wonder if that is Urban's issue here.

College students who don't go to class, usually do not do very well in school.

In some people's eyes that's the same as saying he is a dumb jock. Just depends on a person's perspective on it.

It's a topic worthy of discussion. If t wasn't then I wouldn't have started the thread.

Urban Meyer has no further use for Jones.
