Urban Meyer endorses Cardale Jones

I don't know if Urban Meyer was being malicious he said this but I don't know why he would say that. He could have made his points without taking shots at Cardale and how good he was in school. I don't know what he was trying to accomplish saying what he said about Cardale.

“A really good skill set, intellectual, very smart, wasn’t necessarily very good at school. I wonder if that kind of set him back a little bit. That’s one difference between pro and college — now he doesn’t have to worry about classes and going to school and all that stuff. He can focus completely on football.”

I don't have a problem with what was said. If the shoe fits, the shoe fits.

I know people that I would consider as smart that weren't all that great in school.

And likewise, the opposite is true...I know of several people who did very well at school, but operate at an idiot's level in real life.

Definitely.

Sounds like Matt Jones saying XYZ is going to the draft because they don't want to be in school but their good kids.

What?

It was an odd statement. Not sure what the point was as the comment would have been complete without that tidbit.... almost a backhanded compliment. Some teams, who look for any excuse to drop a player in the draft, may hold that against him.

I don't have a problem with it I just don't understand why he felt compelled to say it. I also can see why people have a problem with it.

Urban treats his own players (current and former) no different than his recruits.

One of the ESPN afternoon shows were killing Urban for making that statement. Said he should have the kids back at this point and not worry about airing his dirty laundry when it wasn't needed.

I took it as Meyer had an issue with Jones possibly not attending classes? I guess we can assume Meyer will also call out others that do the same?

Cardale's tweet didn't lie.

Cardale improved and became a better person and a really good football player. Meyer was ready to dismiss him a few years ago, glad everything worked out for him.
