I'm a Michigan fan, but I don't follow college football more than at a very "10,000 foot" level, so I wouldn't consider myself a die-hard fan or even a good fan... So no, I don't really care if this was done to stop Harbaugh.

And since the SEC is the biggest $$$ maker for college football it seems, at best, coincidental that once they started becoming extremely vocal, the NCAA made the ruling.

I have no misinterpretation about what the main point of these camps are. I am failing to see why they are an issue.

 

If the biggest issue is that they are "done outside of normal contact periods," then to me it's a non-issue. College football, or really college sports in general, is a shady business. These publicized camps are way less shady than other things that I'm sure go on in the world of the NCAA.

So you just admitted to a misleading title base on your interpretation? I'm an ND football fan and not an SEC football fan. I don't see a problem if a majority of conferences agree to this ruling.

Does this also mean that guest coaches will not be allowed at camps like UC, OSU or Northwestern? Going to make it more expensive to get recruited, thats for sure.

Both of these posts are correct. What is more shocking is why it took this long for someone to abuse this "loophole" that the SEC closed well before this for their member schools.

 

Ironically, I went to the Michigan football camp when Lloyd Carr was still coach the year after their title. If I remember, there were coaches from many schools that were allowed to attend. I am guessing schools have started to shut that off now? At least to the degree it used to be allowed? I vividly remember a Virginia Tech coach at the UM camp.

These satellite camps are nothing more than a commercial for the school. If Michigan is interested in guys in Alabama, they've already met with them and their coaches at the school in the spring. All these camps do is to send a 'don't forget about us if Bama and LSU don't offer you' message.

Instead of taking Junior to the OSU camp and getting him seen by quite a few programs (MAC, etc), Junior will have to go to all individual camps.

I am far from well off. Let me just say that it's all about priorities in life. Danny Willett's parents twice re-mortgaged their house to fund their son's golf career. Depends on what's important to you.

You do know that smaller colleges, with lower budgets attend these camps as well looking for players right? So it's not just the kids in poverty, or kids with 1 parent who are affected.

 

This is a lose lose for kids and smaller colleges but it's a win for the SEC and their fans. You can try to paint a Picasso around it but that's the truth.

I do disagree with not allowing smaller college coaches to attend the larger schools camps. I think the ruling recently issued should be amended in that regards. However, I am in complete agreement with the banning of the so called "camps" that are nothing more than PR campaigns for schools far away from their campuses.

 

If a kid can play, he will not go under the radar. He will find a home somewhere. With or without a camp.

Had Harbaugh not done the camps this year, we wouldn't be talking about this. That ticked some folks off (apparently the "right" folks) and now here we are. Pretty simple.
