April 7, 201610 yr Care to elaborate? He said something along the lines (not a direct quote) of...another Louisville assistant or staffer is about to be let go and it will eventually be proven that said person had knowledge of the stripper parties. If you think about the people on the staff...

April 7, 201610 yr Mike Balado would fit the "Coach Mike" narrative. Exactly. IF, and I stress the IF part, that is the case...I have to think Louisville will be in serious trouble.
April 7, 201610 yr Exactly. IF, and I stress the IF part, that is the case...I have to think Louisville will be in serious trouble. Balado would make sense for after McGee was gone, because he didn't join the staff until after the 2013 Championship. Before that though, it could still all be on McGee.
April 7, 201610 yr Hard for UL to A.) claim it never happened. B.) blame it on a rogue Andre McGee IF someone can prove it continued after McGee left the state. If another staffer stepped in and the parties continued, that shows a pattern that's really hard to deny.

If another staffer stepped in and the parties continued, that shows a pattern that's really hard to deny. No one at UofL is claiming nothing happened. That was never the case. You can still pin it on McGee, because it is very possible he did it on his own, up until he left. Then you would factor in the accomplice, which as Wireman said, would be bad for UofL.
April 7, 201610 yr Mike Balado would fit the "Coach Mike" narrative. I've never heard of him. How long has he been at UL?
April 7, 201610 yr I've never heard of him. How long has he been at UL? Joined the staff in April of '13.
April 7, 201610 yr So how does this compare to the debacle of the UK fiasco in the late 80's? Cats got two years of probation, reduction in scholarships, tv ban, and their NCAA record from 1988 expunged. Is UL on the same level as the Eric Maunal/ and Sean Mills payola scandal? I don't think so but it is damn close.
April 8, 201610 yr I don't think so but it is damn close. IMO a sex scandal is way past the UK issue. The latest self imposed penalities are a joke. Pitino goes to Florida during April every year and there is very little recruiting done in April. Most kids dont even take all their visits and losing a scholarship for a kid on the end of the bench makes this all "window dressing".

Most kids dont even take all their visits and losing a scholarship for a kid on the end of the bench makes this all "window dressing". The only part of the sex scandal involving recruits that we know of was with Blakeney and Lyles and while the belief is that it is connected to the University we still really don't know the whole truth. With UK we know Dwayne Casey sent the envelope to Sean Mills and that is the only envelope we know about. We have no clue who else got envelopes and how long it was going on for. UK was caught red handed. UL was caught but not red handed. That's why I say it is damn close.

Then you would factor in the accomplice, which as Wireman said, would be bad for UofL. I can believe this, except for wondering where the money came from. He very well could have, but I have a hard time believing that McGee just paid for everything out of his own pocket. Not saying he got the money from the Athletic department, but I really don't think it was his own cash. Maybe a booster or something.
April 8, 201610 yr As of now, the UK scandal is worse. If it comes out that another UL assistant was involved...this one gets really messy.
April 10, 201610 yr This could end up being a referendum on the "new model" of NCAA enforcement. It is basically what prosecutors do every day -- threaten much more than the target is likely to get but not so much that it is out of the question. The target can't afford the huge punishment so they take a plea bargain for more than they like but much less than the worst and it has the certainty of knowing what you're getting. It is also a benefit to the prosecutor that there is very little chance of a plea bargain being overturned on appeal. Same with the NCAA that the member school cannot complain about the penalty or the investigation when it is finalized because they imposed most of it. The new model worked with Syracuse exactly as described above - get the school to impose all of the sanctions the NCAA wants less 1 or 2. The NCAA comes in and tacks that on to show they are actually involved. My guess it that was either agreed or tipped before Syracuse agreed to the self-imposed stuff. The real question is whether they want to "double emphasize" the point by HAMMERING UNC who has apparently taken the opposite approach. In essence saying "No plea deal. I want a trial and my day in court." In the prosecutor world, those defendants get charged to the max and the prosecutor gets the conviction at the max (because of the power they have) in order to show the next 10 defendants that want to go to trial, "OK, if that's what you want, look at this guy. That's what can / will happen. Wanna take the deal?" Of course, they could claim this investigation started so long ago, the new model isn't applicable. (Or they could just admit it's not applicable because it is UNC.)
April 11, 201610 yr To be honest I imagine UL is in a world of crap and the NCAA will add more sanctions. Although it's not surprising at all, I figured the NCAA would do that. The surprising thing is that UL has added more sanctions on their own before the NCAA has finished their investigation. In general that doesnt happen unless new skeletons have come out of the closet.
