US Women's Soccer Team Files Discrimination Suit

Featured Replies

I agree, heard this on the radio this morning. If what they are saying is true I hope they clean up!

I can't wait to read this complaint and go through the numbers. Don't know if it's all true, but I really hope the knock Sunil Gulati and the USSF in the dirt.

I read an article that stated that they actually make a larger % of revenues than the men do. :idunno:

If the figures posted by Wireman are correct, it doesn't seem to me that they have much of a complaint. Will the WNBA be next?

Like everyone has mentioned, if those numbers are true the women's pay should be greatly reduced if we really want to be fair.

I was having this conversation yesterday (with another old, white male) we belly laughed about women demanding equal rights. In many cases women want nothing to do with equal rights because often times they have way more rights and more privilege, and obviously more money like in the example in above as it currently stands now. Equal rights means a lot less for women in many instances.

If those numbers are accurate (and NOTE that I got those from Twitter), I don't know.

Their lawsuit is also against the US Soccer Federation, not FIFA. Those numbers reflect World Cup winner payouts (if "itsjoe.co" is accurate).

Correct. Has nothing to do with World Cup winner payouts. It's about the payment contracts with the US Soccer Federation.

Are national team players paid a salary or an appearance fee?

Haven't gotten into the whole payment structure yet. I'll have more time to read later tonight. My understanding is that they're paid for playing in national team games by appearance and then given bonuses for victories, but I'll have to double check that.

Here's the most detailed breakdown of USSF's finances I've seen so far:

US Soccer Budget Breakdown

The bonus pay disparity that the U.S. players revealed in their complaint is shocking: a male player receives $5,000 for a loss in a friendly and as much as $17,625 for a victory against a highly-ranked opponent. A member of the women’s national team receives $1,350, but only if the United States wins. Women’s players receive no bonuses for losses or ties.

Don't like what you get paid, don't play the game.

Good thing Bruce Jenner didn't play soccer.

Like everyone has mentioned, if those numbers are true the women's pay should be greatly reduced if we really want to be fair.
