March 31, 201610 yr According to the SI soccer guy (can't remember his name although I just watched him on TV), women's soccer generated 51M in revenue in 2015 and men's soccer 60M. The suit also seeks equality in travel arrangements/accommodations and such as well.
March 31, 201610 yr Not to mention that the US women seem to be light years ahead of the US men in terms of international success.
April 1, 201610 yr Author Don't like what you get paid, don't play the game. Good thing Bruce Jenner didn't play soccer. Some are saying a work stoppage may be imminent. How bad does the US want their women's team to win?

I think that speaks volumes about the difference in revenue. 2015 for the women was a world cup year, whereas the men's was in 2014, and while I'm no soccer expert a lot of the men's matches following a world cup tend be played with younger less experienced (and less popular) players as the team can better afford to have a loss or draw as World Cup qualifying for the next cycle isn't quite in place yet. I would bet that the men's team generated considerably more revenue in 2014 than they did in 2015.

One basketball team has a higher payroll than both teams generate in income. Amazing.

April 1, 201610 yr I don't even understand how soccer works with salary structure. Do they have a CBA and represented by a union or a lawyer? I understand wanting more pay. If they generate the revenue they should get it. I also wonder if the discrepancy in pay in proffesional leagues factors in as well. I'm guessing the men make more money in league play so to get them to play they need to offer a higher payout.

Doing a little research I found that the NWSL salaries range from $6,842 to $37,800. I'm sure star players such as Alex Morgan can make much more via endorsements, but their professional earnings potential seem to be really limited. By contrast Deandre Yedlin was signed last season by Tottenham Hotspur to a contract worth 375,000 pounds annually. In American dollars this is $532,500. He is a way less accomplished player than Ms. Morgan. One thing that I'm not sure about is how the players are paid when they are away from their club teams to participate on the national team. Seems like there has to be some type of offset between the two.
