Where is the usual Democratic supporters at? Lipton Bash, Science Friction, and a few more?

They said this wouldn't happen?

Since when am I Democrat ? Plus I posted in here ?

My daughter had to go to the emergency room recently to get 2 stitches after being bit by a dog. She is a state employee and has her health insurance through the state. Her part of the cost for the emergency room visit, stitches, etc. was over $1000. That seemed outrageous to me.

Insurance companies have been forced by government to accept the sickest and the poorest for coverage. They must accept whatever subsidy the government offers as payment for their premiums. The premiums paid do not come close to covering the medical costs for these folks because most have pre-existing conditions that are very expensive to treat. In order to make up for the losses, the insurance companies are forced to charge ever higher premiums and deductibles for the people, who the government says, can afford to pay for their coverage on their own. When these personal pay consumers eventually opt out because they can no longer afford unsubsidized coverage, the insurance companies will be forced to close their doors. This will result in the government swooping in to take over the healthcare industry. Which was the goal all along.

Why didn't the dog owner pay for it?

Its that much so you can offset the cost of someone who gets it free.

I had a similar experience.

My two year old was sick and as relatively new parents my wife and I freaked and decided an ER visit was necessary.

They did nothing but look at her. They didn't do any tests. They did give her motrin. They told us the bill would be cheaper if we paid that night, so we paid $125.

A month or so later without any notice we got a bill saying that if we didn't pay around $400, can't remember the exact amount, within a month they'd be sending it to collections.

I know that the emergency room where I work charges $500.00 to walk in the door. Keep in mind, no emergency room can refuse to treat anybody. Therefore, people, with no insurance will use the ER instead of going to a doctor. Many homeless people will show up in an ER at night with vague symptoms simply to have a place to crash, and maybe something to eat. You would be surprised to know that it is not unusual to have patients come in 2-3 times a month, and some 2-3 times a week. You have to pay doctors and nurses to care for each one every time.

Someone has to pay for all that. Those costs are passed on to those that are insured. Hence the $1000.00 dog bite.

Socialism at its finest. Same concept as car insurance going up and you didn't wreck but others in your area did.

HB, I bet if you tell them you will pay them $100 or $200 right now they will take it. Make sure you get an email from them or something in writing. I had some tests done last year and got IMO an outrageous bill for over $3,500 (was not at the ER and was at the office only 90 minutes. I called and said the bill was outrageous and I was not paying it. I offered to pay them roughly $1,500 and they accepted right away as long as they got paid right away. They accepted so soon that I wish I would have offered $1,000. Doctors just ask for the moon because they have to do so much "work" for people who pay them nothing. They have to try to get it from people who can pay. If you fight back, they will normally take a lot less than the bill.

Crickets from the Obama pep club. You will never find them in threads like this.....

Obamacare alone makes Obama's presidency a failure IMO.

I just had a child, and medical bills are outrageous. It's a vicious cycle of medical companies overcharging, which causes hospitals to over charge, all funded by the ripoff that is health insurance. Obamacare has not fixed this problem, it has enhanced and enabled it. Premiums are outrageous. What is covered is ridiculously small.

The only goal of Obamacare in truth was for the government to control the medical field in the US IMO. So far, results are not so good.

They have messed it up so bad at this point they might as well make everything the medicare model. At least that works pretty well for the most part. We are already supplementing the poor with free coverage. This would allow those that can afford it to buy additional coverage such as a supplement or advantage plan.
