Watching him play this week, I'm not sure there is a guy in the tourney that can stop him. He's looked as dominate as anyone I've seen at Rupp over the past 2 games. Reminds me a little bit of Justin Miller from OHS last season. Not playing style, but in the sense that a lot of people kind of overlooked his play for bigger name, more highly recruited kids, but at the end of the day, he leads his team to a state title. Tomorrow will be a tough, but my money is on Weyer and NewCath!

Sounds like he had shown a lot of interest in Ben lately.

This is unequivocally not true.

Being my team was out a long while ago, I'm a Weyer fan now!!! Go NCC and bring it home to the 9th.

This is unequivocally not true.

Living in the same community - a lot of people have mutual friends and people say things they have heard from coaching staff...how much of it is true or misconstrued I don't know but either way it doesnt matter...let's let it go. Ben's not interested in going there anyway.

The game of basketball is having fun and I think Weyer is having fun and so is his teammates. D1 or D2 all I know this young man is getting his education free. Keep on having fun Mr. Weyer and good luck to you and the Breds. I'm a 9th region fan we are rooting for you guys.

I can tell you without a doubt from the very top, it's not true.

Now the first part of Clydes statement might be true. The second is 100% false.

Thanks for clearing that up then...next

Sometimes this site makes me sad. Instead of talking Xs and Os, or celebrating the achievements of high school students, we have people knocking those accomplishments, and player's parents having to defend their children. I'm sorry for the family that has to occur.

It doesn't matter what level YOU think a player should play. Perhaps there were educational reasons why Bellarmine was selected. Perhaps his choice had nothing to do with hoops, and he found a way to leverage a truly unique advantage 99.9% of high school students don't have. Maybe the young man wanted to continue his Catholic education (how cool would that be).

Back to the topic...I don't know how to stop him. And by the looks of things, the majority of coaches/teams don't know how to either!

Best of luck to Ben and his friends.

He's so versatile, it'll take a guy his size that is a step faster. He can hit from anywhere. Hopefully Dunbar can't figure it out either

Weyer has trouble with athletic players who body up on him. If Goodin plays against him, Goodin is too quick and way too athletic for Weyer. Remember that Weyer is a Division II player, Goodin is a big-time Division I recruit who can defend guards or forwards. That would be a bad matchup for Weyer, who has limited quickness and ball handling skills.

Just because Weyer chose Division II doesn't mean he isn't Division I and if anyone thinks he can't play at the D-I level is crazy IMO. Weyer has played against all kinds of athletes in high and AAU so not anything new to him. Weyer lets the game come to him and gets everyone involved, he should have been MR. Basketball.

Thor, since you seem to know so much about Weyer, how do you know that no D-1 colleges have offered him anything? Please do tell since you seem to be in the KNOW.

Kids choose to play DII for a variety of reasons hence the DII logo "I chose DII"

For some it is highest level that they were recruited and others with D1 interest it could be early playing time, academics, proximity to family.

I always find in humorous when someone talks about a player and says he is only a D2 player. I would bet that person has at best only seen a handful of D2 games if any.

As I have said many times here on BGP D2 is legit. There are 300+ D1 teams and most of us only get to watch/follow teams that appear on TV and would probably be in the top 100. There is a very thin line between the top D2 teams and the majority (bottom 2/3) D1.

The opportunity to play at Bellarmine and get a great education close to home and compete for conference championships and national championships on an annual basis seems like a pretty good deal to me. Bellarmine also does a great job getting their players opportunities to play overseas after their career is over.

Someone tweeted a couple of years ago while watching the D2 National Championship game that there were D2 & D3 players who could be playing D1 and there were D1 players who should be playing D2 & D3.

So I have a slight bias towards D2 and my D1/D2 rant is now over!:taz:

Man haters gonna hate I guess.

Ben might not have the flashy game that some others have but when it comes to skill and basketball IQ he is as good as any other player in the state. Best big in the state and I am a huge Carson Williams fan. Not even close in terms of skill comparison though. Ben brings so much more to the game with his versatility. There's more to the game than just being an athlete.

Ben has his flaws like any other player but plays the game the way it should be played.

He can play at the D1 level and if you don't think he can, you're simply blind by bias toward another player. This is the same kid that had 33 pts, 13 rbs against a St Louis Christian team last year that featured four kids 6'7 or bigger (two 6'10 plus) who all had D1 offers.

In my opinion a recruit has many very difficult decisions when making a college decision. One of the hardest is balancing playing time and how quickly that comes in his college career. Do I go to a school that might be "bigger" and sit for a year or two before I get an opportunity? Do I go to a school where an opportunity to play is there when I walk onto campus?

Location, education, size of enrollment are all other aspects that come into a decision.

As for Weyer. I have to admit I have been away from the high school scene for many years and resorted to a casual fan and follower. I am not going to pretend to express my opinion if he can or can not play D1. My question is did he have any offers at the D1 level?

Reading this forum, it appears NKU offered and the new coaching staff pulled the offer? What other D1 schools offered him a scholarship to play D1 ball?
