It is incorrect that it is harder or will cause more controversy. MOST states for HS athletics AND all college AND all professional seed... because it's fairer, bottom line. Ohio seeds AND has divisions and it's a far better draw for crowds and creates better games. This is just one of those backward, stubborn things that when others from outside ky look in at Kentucky it verifies the stereotypes they've heard about the state.

 

Then move to Ohio. Sounds like you'd be happier there. Simple fix.

I just don't understand. This seems like a lot of work and a lot of controversy just so Mercer County and Dunbar can play on Saturday night instead of Wednesday. Seeding is a good theory but not very applicable. As someone else said, it's almost impossible to seed the NCAA tournament, and they have a million data points. How can we expect seeding a high school tournament to be easier? And while on earth would we want coaches on a conference call arguing their seeding? I just see no positives.

That's about the most uneducated statement ever made on here. Do you really think that other states look at Ky and form a stereotype of any sort based upon how we format our State Tourney?? Ridiculous....yeah ...move to Ohio, sounds like you'd fit in well up ther.

It took me 4 minutes to seed all 16 teams.

 

Trinity and Dunbar have the same win % therefore head to head (1-1) so now need record vs other region winners for the 9 and 10 seeds.

 

Trinity - Wins vs Dunbar & Lawrence Co - loss vs Dunbar (2-1)

 

Dunbar - Win vs Trinity - Losses vs Trinity and Taylor Co (1-2)

 

Trinity gets the 9 seed, dunbar the 10 seed.

Your correct, seeding by winning % is fairly simple, just not logical.

 

Take the 68 teams that made the NCAA field and apply your logic, I think it will make for some pretty interesting discussions.

I'm not griping. It should remain the way it is. There doesn't need to be any solutions. Seeding is impractical and unnecessary.

 

I AGREE! This is one tournament that I do not want to see seeded. Districts...Yes because you can use district records and you want the best teams to get to the Regionals. But the State Tournament in Theory is the best of each Region, so they should draw and play!

Taylor County a 13 Seed? Are you kidding me? SMH. There is an old saying which says if it's not broke don't fix it. One thing that makes the Boy's and Girl's Sweet 16 the GREATEST SHOW IN HOOPS is the fact of the blind draw!

I'm not surprised that there are plenty out there that love it the way it is and scoff at the thought of altering it in any way... I'm not even sure I would want to change a thing about the process. The folks that really don't care for the blind draw are mostly those people that are more casual in their support of high school athletics. The passionate fans out there would rather leave things the way that are and always have been. There's absolutely nothing wrong with loving the traditionalist aspects of something you are so passionate about. I think I prefer to leave it as is, but at the same time I see the points and understand the logic supporting a change. A civil discussion is all I was hoping to achieve with this thread. I certainly don't intend on ruffling any feathers or getting people upset! Some things I've read on this thread make me wish I hadn't started it, but I guess you got to take the bad with the good.

No worries, and nothing wrong with posting the thread. Along with death and taxes, there will inevitably be some variation on the following themes this time of year.

 

Seed the State tournament (heard much more often on the boys side).

 

Classify Kentucky high school basketball (no, in the name of all that is holy).

 

Have the KHSAA take authority and autonomy from all districts and force every district to seed and have their teams play games against each other.

 

It's okay to have a regional tournament at Henry County eleventy billion years straight, but not at Mason County.

 

The corollary to the above - it's a pain in the tookus for NKY fans to drive to the ends of the earth (which for the uninformed is Montgomery County).

 

Any tournament held on the campus of NKU is an exercise in squeezing every penny from the attendees.

 

Everyone hates UK, Announcers, officials, the NCAA, the girl scout down the street, your Aunt Tillie and the Bumpus Hounds.

Good point. Taylor is 2-2 against the current field. Their two wins were against Dunbar and South Laurel. Yet they are ranked lower than both?????

Just looking at winning % would be okay if everyone played an equal strength of schedule.

You basketball people are just blinded, its not that hard.

So you're not a basketball person but you think you have the solution to the problem that the basketball people have that those same basketball people don't realize they have. I'm sure the KHSAA is eagerly awaiting your call.

Question for people that want to rank teams: do you take injuries and suspensions into consideration when seeding the teams?
