The only time it will be a discussion point if a few teams are just really close in all the parameters, if they cant decide amongst themselves thats what the KHSAA is for they will be on the call too.

 

I just don't understand. This seems like a lot of work and a lot of controversy just so Mercer County and Dunbar can play on Saturday night instead of Wednesday. You basketball people are just blinded, its not that hard.

I'd argue middle school wrestling and the state high school basketball tournament are slightly different animals.

 

I would argue the opposite.

It took me 4 minutes to seed all 16 teams.

 

Trinity and Dunbar have the same win % therefore head to head (1-1) so now need record vs other region winners for the 9 and 10 seeds.

 

Trinity - Wins vs Dunbar & Lawrence Co - loss vs Dunbar (2-1)

 

Dunbar - Win vs Trinity - Losses vs Trinity and Taylor Co (1-2)

 

Trinity gets the 9 seed, dunbar the 10 seed.

 

 

If you're only seeding on winning percentage, then yeah, that's really easy. Of course by that logic, Kansas and Arkansas-Little Rock are both #1 seeds in the NCAA Tournament.

It is nearly impossible to seed teams correctly so why even do it? Waste of time. The blind draw is what it is and it is the most fair way to answer a question that has no true answer.

 

The ONLY way to truly seed the tournament accurately is to have all 16 teams play each other to determine who is the best.

 

Oh. Wait......

Or they could go the AAU route and have pool play to determine seeds.

Best records are the top 4 seeds....

 

 

Wait, nah, that won't work either. No way to determine who should be the overall #1 if four teams go 3-0 in pool play.

 

Then we have to figure out the next 12 seeds based on opinion. If you have Dunbar, Mercer County, Christian County and Bowling Green in one pool then that's a problem.

 

Shoot, determining who should be in what pool would be a problem also.

My seeds for this year would look like this. All opinion based:

Hard to seed when not many have seen every team play.

NCAA division 2 does something unique. They take each region and put the top 8 from that region into brackets. Winner from each region moves on. That next round is randomly picked. There are at least some common opponents per region, but seldom an East coast team ever see a west coast team. Still subjective.

Here is the issue, nobody believes that Dunbar is the 10th seed out of these 16 teams. Your rankings aren't a whole lot different than a blind draw because you are not seeding on how good a team is, you are seeding on how well they beat the teams they played. I'd be a little upset if I was S. Laurel and was seeded 7th and had to play Dunbar at a 10th seed. This is a prime example of why seeding by win pct will never work. A blind draw is soooo much better and why so many are for it.

 

I love the blind draw. I love the early matchups. I really don't want to pay money to watch 5 or 6 blowouts on day one.
