Why no seeding of teams in the Sweet16?

Featured Replies

I feel like 2 of the top teams will meet in the 1st round, which makes me wonder why there is no effort to seed these teams in a way that makes it possible for them to meet in the later rounds? I know in the ladies bracket this year, I don't think many would argue that Butler and E-town were the class of the field, yet they meet in the round of 8, and we end up with a lopsided final? I think I probably know some of the reasoning..... But what say you?

No way to objectively seed. It would be subjective voting/a poll. Just not a true way to do it. Of course the NCAA tournament is done that way so.........

This thread has been on here almost every year.

Why not do away with district and regional tournaments and have bids? Geez...

Just ignore it then, so I guess since it's been answered before and I missed it, I'm just out of luck. The computer ranking that I've seen, seem do a pretty good job of quantifying a teams position. But if that's out of the question, are there no intelligent ideas for at least improving on what we have?

It's great the way it is...why make it easier on the perceived best teams by giving them easy games early?

Look at it this way also...2 top teams are set to meet in the first round and this is the game everyone wants to see. Well it they are seeded then the only way they meet is in the finals and they may not happen.

KHSAA is lazy and doesnt want to do it. Same reason they dont seed the HS Wrestling Tournament.

They seed the top 25% of teams in the KHSAA tennis tournament and should do the same here. It isn't hard to know that Mercer, Dunbar, Christian Co, and Bowling Green should be seeded (though an argument for Trinity could maybe be made after going through the 7th gauntlet.) They should at least make an attempt to seed. The NCHSAA (North Carolina) seeds teams and it works well.

I enjoy the randomness of it, adds excitement to the tournament. While some regions are tougher than others, everyone got there the same way, they are regional champions. Half of the teams that were consistently in the Top 20 throughout the year are at home, no reason to use seeding at this point. Take the draw you got and go out and win. I know that this topic will be split between the people who support the "favorites" and those who support the "little guys".

There is not a legit way of determining who is better and so on, look at the NCAA seeds, and how that worked out

Who says it needs to be improved? The pairings are done by blind draw, well before we even know who the teams will be from each region. What could be fairer and less controversial.

And until they try to get the 2 best teams playing for the football title I'll oppose this.

They'd have to either form a Selection Committee or have the Board of Control do it.

There will probably be more arguments about the seeding than there is now. People will always have a problem with how teams are seeded. I'm mean look at the NCAA, people always seem to have problems with where their team was seeded.

I'll give you an example. Many would say that Christian Co should be the number 1 seeded team this year because they haven't lost to a team in KY yet. They are ranked no. 1 in many polls, but peeps from Dunbar and Mercer County would argue that Christian Co hasn't even played a top 20 BGP team the entire year. So they think Christian Co. should be more like a 5th or 6th seed.

The current method, even though it has some flaws, has worked and does it's job. In order for you to be state champion, you have to win 4 games. If your hardest game is the first one out....so be it.

That is what I would say as well. Seeding would be very hard to do.

Winning %

Head to head

Record vs other Region Winners

Record vs Teams in region in regular season.

Doesnt seem to hard to me.
