Who were the biggest Snubs of the tourney ?

Featured Replies

Again, I agree. What I want to know is what Monmouth could have done to earn an at-large bid. They played a strong schedule, and fared well in most of the OOC games. Do three (3) bad losses fully negate a couple quality wins?

It's almost as if the selection committee inadvertently sent a message that if a mid major doesn't win the conference tournament, you're not in. Again, I get it, and I don't necessarily disagree, but am interested to see how it shakes out in the future.

This is the one I have the most problem with. They did everything required but had 3 road losses in conference that supposedly kept them out. If that is the new criteria it should have kept UK out with those losses at Auburn, TN, and LSU. :sssh:

Maybe what bounced UK to a 4?

I'm sure it did. Personally I have no problem with UK at a 4. Too inconsistent. Besides, to win it all, you've got to beat them all.

I just think it's a crime that Monmouth did what was asked and their OOC is much better than a Syracuse and you see who is in.

Monmouth had 3 top 100 RPI wins and 3 losses to teams 200+ in RPI. In what world did they did screwed? They had 1 top 50 win. If ESPN never showed their bench celebrations you would have never said about about them getting left out.

Beating Notre Dame was pretty impressive. They weren't going to get much out of their conference schedule and they went out and scheduled 4 top 100 teams. Beat 3 out of 4.

They had 3 bad games. How many did the Cuse have? How many did UK have? How many did Duke have? If there name wasn't Monmouth I think most would agree they had a good resume.

Cuse gets in because they don't have a coach for 10 games. Georgia finishes around 60 in RPI (I think) and they had a slew of injuries.

I just can't get a handle on what the committee says is the criteria and no one else really can as well.

I asked this somewhere else and have not seen the answer. Of the at-large teams, who were the bottom RPI teams? I know Syracuse was at 72 in the RPI. Are they the lowest RPI at-large team? What was Monmouth's RPI? Who are the highest RPI teams not in the tournament

Which teams that actually had a chance of winning it all got snubbed?

None...

Bingo

This time of year it's the same thing. So and so got left out...yada yada yada. When in reality no one that is actually good gets left out. I hate the "deserved to get in" moniker. If you are the subject of a conversation about getting "snubbed" you didn't deserve crap.

There is part of me that makes that apropos.

Yes on Syracuse, by far.

Monmouth was 52.

St. Bonaventure was 30. Akron was 34. St. Mary's was 38.

To me, I think it should have been Tulsa out, and Monmouth vs. St. Mary's for that spot.

* OOC SOS Monmouth was 99 and St. Mary's was 166 (point for Monmouth)

* vs Top 50: Monmouth 1-1 and St. Mary's 2-2 (point for St. Mary's)

* vs Top 100: Monmouth 3-4 and St. Mary's 6-3 (point for St. Mary's)

* vs 200+: Monmouth 16-3 and St. Mary's 18-0 (point for St. Mary's)

KenPom Ratings for the top Rated teams teams not in...

34 St Mary's

36 Valpo

43 San Deigo St

44 Florida

48 Creighton

50 Kansas St

51 South Carolina

53 Clemson

57 Houston

59 BYU

62 Washington

63 Virginia Tech

64 Georgia Tech

65 Georgia

66 Princeton

67 Monmouth

68 Georgetown

69 Mississippi

70 Ohio St

71 Memphis

72 UCLA

Shocking looking at the Kenpom is that Temple who is an 10 Seed is only rated 86th, only 9 teams in the tourney rated lower and yet they got a 10 Seed.

While this isn't the tournament that everybody cares about, how does my alma mater Evansville get left out of the NIT. They were 25-9 and finished 2nd in the MVC regular season and was runner up in the MVC tourney losing on a buzzer beater. Of their 9 losses, 6 were to teams in the NCAA tourny. The only loses to team not in the tourny are Arkansas, Illinois St. and Indiana St. I guess it comes down to $. Evansville is a small D1 school with a small fanbase.

The answer is that the NIT has auto bids to all regular season conference champs that don't make the NCAA tournament. More so this year than any other season, the #1 seeds were beaten in the smaller tournaments. Thus less "at-large" selections for the NIT.
