Erin Andrews Awarded $55M

Featured Replies

I'm glad she got 55 million. People can say whatever but she'll never feel comfortable in a hotel ever again. Her naked body is available to be seen without her consent for eternity. I guarantee it has been seen millions of times in the last 6 hours since this news came out. I couldn't imagine if this was my sister, daughter or wife so I am glad she will get something out of this.

I side with you too PP92.

Would anybody on this board be awarded $55 million if something similar happened to one of us?

I don't know. Depends on if how much they liked to watch Wireman flit about in the buff with a stuffed shark.

I'd imagine the people would pay $55 million to keep a video of the majority of us off the internet.

But it's a fair question, one I almost raised. I would say no. Put I'm almost not sure it should be. She's a very public figure.

I'm not a legal expert and I have no idea.

Sorry, $55M is just ridiculous IMO. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad she won, and she deserved a nice payday, but the $ amount is just absurd IMO.

This.

Blame it on the defense attorney's strategy of trying to say the film helped her career. It's not hard for a jury of women and fathers who have daughters and brothers who have sisters to side with a woman in this situation.

It sounds ridiculous that they would make this argument, but when this first made news I remember the "she did it for the attention" thing being pretty widespread. In fact, I didn't know this was a stalker case until now, since the opinion-media narrative then was largely focused on why she'd be naked in her hotel room. So, I'm not sure it was outlandish for them to think the jury would also lean toward that thought process. Granted, they were apparently very wrong. :lol2:

Heck no. Your stature has a lot to do with it. Show a naked picture of a random woman, it will get looks, but chances are the amount of people that look at it will be a minuscule fraction of the size of this incident. The random woman will not be publicly humiliated to the same degree.

ESPN brought her in to question if it was a publicity stunt. Also helped lead to her departure... In fairness to ESPN, you have to ask the question, don't you?

$55 million is a ridiculous amount in my mind too.

Please someone stalk me and look at my nude body so I can get rich.

I don't know. That seems like a bad move on ESPN's part if that's how they handled it.

It was because of the rumors you talked about were circulating. I see their side in it, but you are probably right. Hopefully it was done with tact.
