Erin Andrews Awarded $55M

Featured Replies

If she released it herself how much do you think she could have made off it? A nude video, not this specific video.

No clue, who would pay to see it

I'd guess a good majority of the people that watched it and 100's of porn sites to have access to it.

Mika and Joe on "Morning Joe" applauded the ruling, saying they would have been okay with an even bigger award judgment.

10 million for that. No way.

Exactly. She would get millions of dollars for a nude video of herself because of her celebrity.

Combine that with the fact that she deserves damages. $10 million in her pocket is not out of the question to me one bit.

Which is why I don't think $55 million is out of the question in this case because she won't get close to that. And in reality, she'll maybe get more what the release of that video is probably worth.

Dan Patrick had a legal expert on his show today regarding this. A few notes from it:

Her argument is that the hotel owners are negligent because they let the stalker know what room she was in. $28M to be paid by peeping Tom. $27M from company that owns hotel.

Guy called hotel to ask if Erin was staying there and requested to be in the next room. Negligent act. Guy carved out a peep hole - not his first time doing it. Guy followed Erin around to different cities.

Guy said her attorneys did a good job letting her testimony humanize her even though she was not "injured" or not damaged in her career. She was already a public figure so the argument it helped her from the defense fell on deaf ears.

Real number is max of $27M since the dude can't pay. It will be be appealed saying the jury award is not consistent with precedent. He thinks they will settle. She will get paid.

I'd say quite a few of our BGP friends could speak to the quality of the video.

Also, it mystifies me to hear people try to marginalize Miss Andrews' pain and what she should be awarded as a result of being permanently scarred. Speaking of marginalizing, the position the defense took in this case was absolutely disgusting.

I agree because the hotel gave out private info about her and allowed the stalker in the room next to her means they have fault in this but the amount is a joke. Like someone mentioned, according to a TN jury this is far worse than your average wrongful death suit. Terrible Tennessee, just terrible.

Evidently the jury didn't like the defense attorneys' theory that the stalking & subsequent video helped EA's career. :idunno:

It certainly didn't hurt her career.

And how dare the lawyer be truthful with everyone, we shall have none of a lawyer being truthful in Tennessee.

Her privacy was greatly trampled upon...but $55 million is just crazy. With that said, I'm pretty sure once it's all said and done she won't actually receive anywhere near that, and that may very well be the jury's strategy. Award the moon, and maybe they settle for a high orbiting satellite that would have been a fair judgment in the beginning.

It certainly didn't hurt her career.

She had to publicly answer questions from her employer as to whether or not she colluded with this guy in order to create buzz and gain publicity.

It may not have harmed her career long-term, but it certainly hurt her relationship with her employer.

In the end, the hotel is on the hook because one of its employees gave out info about her to a complete stranger and then set up a stalker in the hotel room next to hers. I'm not famous in any way and I'd be furious if some random dude called a hotel I was staying in and a desk clerk told the guy exactly where he could find me.

I read all that. About a million sounds right.

I've had a hotel put out some info that potentially could have been bad for me and had a buddy that almost get divorced because of a hotel worker.

Be honest, assume you got divorced because of it even though you didn't do anything wrong. How much should the hotel pay you?
