Mason out scored in the first quarter 24-8. Paris was getting to the rim often for lay ups. Mason switched to zone and out scored Paris 59-39. Still had a little trouble putting the game away down the stretch but Pig was clutch again with the clinching FT's.

paris shoots 75% from the line and they win.

Looked like the Royals were done when they went down 27-8 early in the second quarter. Pretty sure they haven't come back from -19 all season. Went to zone, chipped away and got it to a manageable 7-point deficit at half (was 4 but Johnson, who absolutely torched Mason County all night, hit a buzzer-beating 3). Garrison kept the Royals in it early.

 

Early quick run to begin the second half got the Mason County side of the gym rocking. Nip and tuck until Pig clinched it with a pair of charity tosses.

 

Some observations:

 

Wells had maybe the quietest double-double I've seen. Seemed a step slow.

 

Paris ran pretty much the same play eleventy billion times in a row in the second half.

 

The play that was drawn up for D-Will late was PERFECT. Just needed a ball fake to finish it off.

 

Mason needs to do a better job hitting FTs down the stretch in tight games.

 

Pig fouling out his man was big.

 

I had to do about six double-takes seeing Isaiah Garrison wearing number 43.

 

Coach Biggs continues to impress with this squad - as I've said before - consisting of one starter and a bunch of reserves from last season.

 

Congrats to Coach Biggs and the Royals once again!

Garrard was disappointing. No show. Played lazy. Didn't attack glass. Too good of a player to be a non factor in a game of this magnitude

No special defense, not a chaser even, no weakside help, just tight man when he got ball. Had to very nice spin moves from low post in first, and power floater. After that he disappeared when Mason went to zone. Wells jumps out of gym! Johnson kept Hounds in game with some smooth 3's. Paris shooting of 33.8% FGs, 28% from threes, and 50% FTs was not far off season averages when you cut off their running game which Royals did exceptionally the last three qtrs.

The best athlete on the floor was Jekobi Wells, by far. His length and leaping was trouble for the Royals to stop inside all night. He needed at least 12 more touches that he didn't get because of way to many 3's. Garrard and Clark disappointed.

I thought Paris as a team played lazy. Several times Mason County had fast breaks and Paris had two or even three guys not even make it to half court. Can't have that.

Absolutely. I don't know what the stats say, but he seemed to get every rebound and loose ball he went after. I, too, think he should have had a few more touches.

Paris lost the game. Got off to a great start and didn't play smart once mason went zone they continued to jack three's instead of ball control . Hard to watch from a spectator. Awful. Once again Garrard disappointed didn't even seem like he was engaged.

I agree totally...Wells plays hard...don't understand y the coaching staff can't see who is giving their all and reward them w the ball to stop the bleeding when we got up 19. That relaxed style of coaching bites us every time. If we keep coaching the same we will continue to get the same results. If I was told id b up 19 after one before the game I would b ecstatic...me as a coach and staff is obligated to coach us to victory...wasn't done and very disappointing.
