Scott Hundley out at Woodford County

No way they let him go. He's done a great job there. I have heard that he was looking at administration jobs.

HoopJunkie,

I agree. There is no way he was let go. The Newspaper article made it sound like there are other things in life for him.

Woodford will have a couple solid players back next year but my understanding is the talent is on the decline. Maybe somebody in the know can enlighten us on that issue.

Regardless I have heard good things about him as a person and coach.

He resigned to spend more time with family and pursue other avenues. Okay talent coming back. JV coach will most likely get the job.

Patiently waiting to hear what will be open in the 10th... Always interesting this time of year.

Honestly, I don't see much if any.

Nice info 6th Region guy! It just goes to show you how difficult it is to find a good coach and keep them. The expectations are higher than ever before for coaches on the court and in the classroom. We expect HS coaches to coach like they are college coaches, but pay them a part-time salary. It is a shame how our schools, parents, and communities treat HS coaches.

What is the highest salary of Ky HS coaches that you know? Feel free to mention the schools if u like...what about the lowest??

Most make a stipend anywhere from 6K-10K. This does not include their certified pay as a teacher

Russell Independent has a negotiating term on their salary scale. That sounds interesting.

Bowling Green pays over 10k

Russell County pays over 12k

Letcher County Central pays over 12k

Pulaski County pays up over 10k

Louisville area has become almost impossible to keep coaches. Some schools that have numbers(enrollment) are doing fine. A lot of hires are no longer teachers. The jobs they are getting in the buildings do not pay much. A lot of work for little pay. In Louisville you have to be out there and connected to aau organizations or your not getting talent. Some coaches are not willing to spend every weekend chasing 5th-8th graders. A lot of soul selling in Louisville that has backfired. Kids come in with high hopes and it doesn't happen immediately they transfer. JCPS seems to be allowing transfers. Hard to build programs when you can start off playing at one school and finish at another in the same year. For the record, Unless there is a health issue or his assistants get out of it, I see coach Mabrey staying forever at PRP.

I agree with much said here, but I don't agree with the "must be connected to an AAU organization or you are not getting talent" assertion. For some it may be the only way out from the bottom as an escape or disruption of the balance of power. Necessity is the mother of innovation. There are ample other ways schools for years have continued to replenish their talent in Jefferson County. I agree with your mention of transfers and JCPS, it is rampant. Some schools excel at benefiting from transfers and it is not just by coincidence that happens. I would suggest being connected to AAU programs and chasing around 5th-8th grade kids on weekends is a better way than having school boosters hand out "reside addresses" like they are candy or Head Coaches calling parents of players while they are playing for another team in mid-season upon hearing rumors a kid may be disgruntled. Coaching in 6th & 7th is also tough because there are not any rules that go unbroken and parents who expect to be courted like a college recruiting process. It is amazing some of the stuff which happens, so my opinion is that the AAU gets a bad rap because it is the newer way of attracting talent, but things have been going on for years that is equally as responsible for the grab of talent being a mess in the 6th & 7th.

I think Boone County does that as well, but the factor I think is years coaching

Would be interested to see how that works.

Does somebody have to be a teacher to coach basketball? Is it a state of district rule?
