9th Region: Is this true?

Forget it. Useless and waste of time. See you at the arena for state.

Your first post I can agree with.

As the original critic regarding the 9th losing the atmosphere that I've always loved about the 9th region tourney let me say that I FULLY get the reasoning. Schools need money to fund their athletics. It's not cheap.

I'll be there on Sunday and I'll probably be there on Monday enjoying basketball. It won't be the same but it'll still be high school basketball tournament time. No different than Rupp. I don't dig Rupp but I'll go watch ball.

I want to address this running joke / accusation about a "BGP Elite Clique". It not only isn't accurate, its whole basis is rooted in a misunderstanding.

The people that have been / would be thrown into said clique have by and large been here a long time. We know each other, we like each other, we know each other's kids, we've spent time together in many cases in the real world. It is, for many of us, why we spend some time here. I don't always agree with UKMF, Spindoc, or any of the others I've been paired with, but I'm able to disagree with them in such a way that we remain friends and move along. Many (read: MANY) members have joined BGP, spent time here getting to know people, agreeing, disagreeing, debating, sharing ideas, and before they know it, they are part of the fabric of the site. It is a good and healthy thing. Think of it as a social fraternity of sorts, where we don't all agree on everything, but we still like each other. There is nothing elite about it, and the membership, of sorts, is only limited to your willingness to get involved, post often, and choose to want to get along. This is not only a really cool place, but the core group of long-time posters are a special but diverse group, and you'd likely find many you'd like in "real life" if you take the time to get to know folks.

Okay, off my soapbox.

Jeez, cry me a river. If you can't afford to go then don't go but stop trying to ruin the experience for the kids who like playing there and the families that enjoy spending their hard earned money where they choose. I am saving for college for kids, paying for a mortgage, saving for retirement and bankrolling 4 kids including having already shelled out a combined 42 years of tuition to private schools. If I want to spend my hard earned money attending high school sports, that's my prerogative. That doesn't make me elite; it just makes me a high school sports fanatic.

If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen. Name calling - now that's truly rude.

What's hilarious is that the people mainly complaining about BB&T don't even have kids attending 9th region schools!

I've heard they did it for the kids (players) multiple times in this thread and you think they moved it to BB&T for them you really have no idea. Just look at the money difference from previous posts and that should tell you it's not for the players. I'm not sold that every player feels that way but maybe you know them all and have the insight. I will also add the 5 minutes I was at the ticket counter buying tickets every student that walked up and bought a ticket complained it was $8 and one had to borrow money to get in because he didn't bring enough. So no it wasn't for kids.

If a large chunk of the money is going back to the schools who cares.

My mistake I thought I was reading it was all about the kids. Since it's all about the school and money that what are we discussing then. You're right who cares.

Disagree completely, they do choose too. If they cant financially afford it, then they are probably not doing something right at home to start with and more than likely thats by choice.

This post is so out of touch with the economy. I guess this is a man to man full court press so congratulations on your win, pricey is the victor. See you at state.

Keep it at high school gym, that's why high school is the best. As you go up to college and NBA: the gyms get bigger, the lights get brighter, and the money gets greener.

You are 100% correct. It's not about the kids.

It's about the green and that's understandable.

Now matter how hard BB&T arena tries... you can't buy the atmosphere.

This ROCKS!!!! :taz:

Sounds like the district finals between BCHS &PCHS from the 60's. And sometimes you get to the window and it's sold out. Then we got in the car and tuned in to WFTM and listened to the game after picking up carryout. A fun memory of youth after Bracken and Pendleton built similar size gyms. The waiting, seating, parking problems are nothing to these young people. Adults weren't always so rabid about attending tournaments, back then it was thought that most fans would be students.

Like. Basketball was so much more fun when I was growing up (70-80's). Memories > Money

I disagree. NEED, is a strong word. Other schools seem to be doing fine without making 65,000 dollars at the regional tournament. Plenty of other ways to make money. You don't need the money, you want it.
