Was Moeves injury just cramps or did he pull a muscle in the leg?

 

Looked like an injury, they had most of his lower leg wrapped and he was limping pretty badly.

Until NewCath forces the issue at the rim, they will struggle at BBT. The weave out up top into a 3 pt shot needs a Plan B. If they are not hitting, they have to have something else. Hall seemed like he could penetrate well enough, but there is nobody inside the arc to pass it to. CovCath did a good job of stepping out on shooters as well.

 

It isn't a huge part of his game, but I hope in Regionals, when you just have to win, that they find a way to get Weyer the ball on the block consistently. He can play anywhere, but down where he can draw fouls and double teams would help the team so much in games like this. With his ability to pass, they wouldn't stay committed to the double very long. He is such a huge weapon, playing the high screen on the weave seemed like it limited his impact.

I am going to say one thing here. First of all, I was not at the game so I cannot comment on the banging that was or was not occurring. Many of you say you are questioning coach Dawn, but it sure reads like you are taking shots at Ben. The kid apparently had an off night which does happen at times.

 

I would also hope that he does not attempt to adapt his game to satisfy all of the Saturday morning coaches. Fact is the kid is not paying to attend college which is a testament to his work ethic and most importantly "HIS GAME" and not the game everyone thinks that he should play.

 

Last time I checked, this was not a regional tourney game so there is time for NCC to make whatever adjustments the coaching staff feels are necessary.

3 years ago in region semi finals they did get the ball inside. The results were the same. McDonald and Schulte shot 5 for 25 from the field and 5 for 15 from free throw line and the results a CovCath win.

Those shots fall more often than not against teams that aren't all that good. I evaluate players as a pretty large part of my living, and he took low percentage shots against a team that wanted to force him to the perimeter. I see 5 star guys miss those shots all spring and summer because hitting a flat footed and contested shot from 22 feet is simply taking a bad shot.

 

If NCC is going to use him as a stretch center, get some rhythm looks. Every perimeter shot was forced and out of rhythm. Just calling a spade a spade...

 

I'm curious besides the game last night what other games did you watch Weyer play. Since you said you watch him 8 times.

Ok. Darius Miller adjusted his game in 2008 to get into the post bc that was what was needed for his team to beat Holmes in the Finals. If he can do it, and still have great success at the next level, how will that affect Ben? As to coaching, it is a fair question to ask why NewCath continues to neglect the post at BBT. If this was Highlands and you saw the same game play out against the same opponent, you would be asking qustions. That is not a knock on abilities, it is a question on philosophy. Dawn is a great coach. He has proven that. He likes a perimeter based game. This year's team is very talented on the perimeter. It fits his philosophy well. However, last night wasn't their night from out there and it seemed like they kept settling for jumpers as opposed to penetration or establishing the post.

Same game last year and six times with the Travellers. I like his game a lot. Didn't like his shot selection last night...

Meh, can't take that one game and say that that means stop going for higher percentage shots when you as a team struggle outside. Additionally, establishing the post doesn't mean 25 shots from there. It provides another angle for ball movement as well.

I've only seen him twice, this game against NCC and against Holy Cross earlier in the year. Similar shot selection both games. Too many threes and too may NBA fade-aways. No doubt he is much better than the two games I have seen. You can tell he definitely has the skills. My opinion is, that in games like these that are aggressive and physical, NCC needs to find ways to get him the ball inside more. Agree with previous posts that stated guards need to know how to get him the ball more effectively. But that's not an isolated NCC issue. Watch Campbell County play sometime and see how they struggle to get the ball inside to Wilson - who can completely dominate. If it gets to be too much work, they "forget" him and "settle". Need more plays created to get the big men the ball inside.
