I can only speak for one, but after a weekend of (heartbreaking) football watching it was hard to get geared up for another night of it, especially on a weeknight. My eyelids were heavy at halftime.

 

I was otherwise looking forward to it as it was a tough one to handicap between the two teams I most wanted to see play each other. And I was glad it was an excellent game (but if it turned to a blowout early I was going to bed).

I've always hated the National Championship (football and basketball) being on a week night. IMO, viewership would be MUCH higher on a Saturday night.

I agree that championship games should be on Saturday nights. That said, a lot of people missed out on a helluva game last night.

Just means a lot of people missed a really good game.

 

Probably doesn't help that two teams from the south were in the title game either...probably didn't pull well up north or out west.

I think they lost a lot of the Midwest with no BIG or BigXII team in the fray. The Southerners are the folks who will watch college football no matter what; the rest of the country is more fickle.

Agreed, most of the south was still watching last year even with the Bucks and the Ducks playing.

I think the logic behind having the games on a Monday night is that people are home. People go out on Saturday night. I know the game runs late into the night, but it was down 19% at the start of the game at 8:30. People are at home at 8:30 on a Monday night. For comparison though, this game had a lower rating than Duke-Wisconsin, Ohio State- Oregon, and here is the real kicker I think, it had a lower rating than the awful game that was Houston- Kansas City this weekend. 4:00 on a Saturday is a HORRIBLE time slot for a game and the game wasn't even close, but yet it had a higher rating.

True on many fronts. However, the biggest reason for a Monday final is because the NFL playoffs are locked into Saturday and Sunday. The ratings for the primetime Bengals/Steelers game was something like 30 million, just an insane number. The NFL isn't giving that slot up and no competition is going against it. Also, considering that almost (if not) all CFP championship games will be played in NFL stadiums, there would be no way to assure that stadium wasn't hosting an NFL playoff game, which means you couldn't schedule the college game on a Saturday or Sunday.

No kidding. I went to bed at 7:30 last night!

Why not move the Saturday NFL matchups to 1:00 and 4:15, then play the CFP game at 8? Guessing that the NFL has a stranglehold on Saturday prime time.

 

If so, let CFP have the 4:15 spot.
