April 7, 201610 yr I'm about 2/3 through it. It's very good and gives you a lot to chew on. I've moved slowly through it since I stop to think every few pages or go back and re-read sections. It's a terrifying account of a fascinating period of history. I've got about 100 pages to go but I wanted to ask you a question. I don't want to be that guy, but reading the part about the rise of fascism in the 1930s there were so many economic and social similarities to today. In know way do I think that is happening today, but it does show that the right person + the right climate + the right amount of anger can = big trouble.

From the American Heritage Dictionary (1983, so I don't know if the definition is still current): (Fascisim is) a system of government that exercises a dictatorship of the extreme right, typically through the merging of state and business leadership, together with belligerent nationalism.

Obviously the conditions in Europe were substantially worse in that period, but it seems the mass reaction to them was an assault on democracy. The public assigned blame for their conditions and wanted strong men to fix it through any means necessary.
April 9, 201610 yr Pulled this one off the shelf yesterday and read it. One of his older ones, I believe. Man, the last two or three chapters had my head spinning. (Not what I needed just before going to sleep!)

I'm enjoying Jack Reacher. 1st is "Homeland: Legend of Drizzt: Dark Elf Trilogy", Book 1 by R. A. Salvatore 2nd is the new Amos Decker series "The Last Mile" by David Baldacci to be released on 4/19

April 15, 201610 yr For those who in the area, the Boone County Library is having a book sale at the main branch this weekend. Picked up 3 Harlen Coben books this afternoon, but sadly all the David Baldacci and Robert B. Parker books that they had (and they had quite a few for those interested in those authors), I've already got. And there wasn't a single Lee Child book in sight.
April 16, 201610 yr So apparently a British TV show based on a Harlan Coben book is debuting tonight on SKY 1. It is called "The Five". Where do I find that channel? Coben talks about it on his Facebook page. (We are fb friends. Me and Harlan. :thumb:)
