Or he needs a better offense. Then he'd be considered good like Freddy Garcia.
Offense is not the problem....The ability or lack thereof to pitch, is the problem.

Position players are paid to hit, most play every day. A great average as you know, is .300 which means 7 out of 10 times, they make outs. A starting pitcher, usually gets the nod every 4th-5th day. Which means 33-38 starts, barring injury. A 20 win season is excellent, 8-7 record is "average". An ERA 3.00± is very good, which gives an average/good MLB team, a chance to win every game. An ERA near 4.85±, is not very good and means you are allowing 1.85 runs to score, each start on average more than a very good pitcher.

Offense will have streaks and so will pitchers. 8-15 in '05 and 8-7 in '06....is neither good or quality. The last time I checked, NO position player who hits .250 or .300, allowed 40+ HR's over the wall, per season.

When's the last time Harang had a quality start?

Let's see:

9/4-8 innings 4 runs

8/30-6 innings 4 runs

8/25-7 innnings 2 runs

It is today and has been for the last stinkin' month.

Nothing wrong with those but the offense reminds me of standing water....stagnant.

Oh no, you've not drank from the "quality starts" cup, that these other guys are sipping from.....:D Say it ain't so, LRCW, say it ain't so.

That's why they give you 162 games, to ride up the mountain when playing good and trying to stop the debacle, when going downhill and playing bad.

So three starts now. I realize that most of his starts have been pretty good, but when your in the middle of the pennant race, and your supposed to be the ace of the staff, then you need to step it up.

I've noticed his velocity has been down, along with his pitch location being up/over the middle more.

He's carried the Reds, the best he could but a team, does not one man carry.

4 of 15 appearances have been quality starts since July 1...

Although August 11th was one inning...what happened against the Phils? Rain, injured?

I agree that pitching is always the priority we have lacked, no argument from me there, however, the last month we can't score, we were in first place not only in the division, but well in the card standings. Since, we can't hit. When the pressure to win increases, we choke, plain and simple. And I'm speaking offensively. In that time frame we have pitched for the most part well enough to win enough games to keep us in real contention.

That was the game he pitched in relief.

Why did Chambliss get tossed? He knows we can't hit!!!

Maybe he thinks his job is on the line for next year.

She is ready to sing.

Harang has been a disappointment down the stretch.

Over his last 4 starts his ERA is well over 5, and he has lost 3 straight.

Unfortunate that our #1 has not pitched like it when you needed him most.
