Track the Reds (Second Half)

An ERA of 4.84 and that is not that bad for an MLB pitcher, who got a $25.5 mil contract and makes $9.8mil this year....

Has anyone mentioned he's overpaid. Can you tell me who the 3rd starter is that is better than Milton?

Brandon Larson was a "former prospect" also...;)

Actually, they were doing both. In my unpopular opinion.

Kearns and Lopez have both had success in the majors, Larson never did.

You're also stuck with Griffey, Larue, and Milton until their contracts expire so stop complaining and get used to it. Those three have 0 trade value because of their contracts. It isn't that they are that bad, it's that they make way too much money.

The REDS don't have a 3rd or 4th starter....that has been my point since last year.

With the exception of Lohse and he may work out to be that. I've said it before the season started, they needed pitching. You dance with the girl you bring and they are a below average team, in a below average NL.

Milton averages 6 innings a start, and has given up fewer than 3 runs in 15 of 25 outings. He's terrible...

According to Doc Kremchek, Milton is on track to start Sunday. That despite the pitcher receiving a cortisone shot in his elbow today. The X-rays and saline-enhanced MRI apparently revealed no serious damage and Milton wants to keep pitching, so they'll let him. Stay tuned on this one, though...

As a Reds, yes he is terrible and doesn't afford the Reds, a chance to win on every outing.

'04 Phillies - 4.75 ERA w/43 HR's allowed

'05 Reds - 6.47 ERA w/40 HR's allowed

'06 Reds - 4.85 ERA w/27 HR's allowed

.....at least he is consistent, even if it's bad. He gives up a tremendous amount of extra base hits, which usually drive in runs and thus, his ERA is terrible..he is not a good fit for the Reds.

Wear your hardhats and bring a glove. I admire him wanting to pitch but I certainly don't enjoy watching him pitch.

Reds after a walk off...

5/2/06

Javier Valentin, walk-off single, Reds lose next game and 3 of 4

5/11/2006

Griffey hits walk-off 3 run HR-Reds proceed to lose 5 in a row.

5/28/06

Javy Valentin walk off HR....Reds lose next two to the Cubs

6/14/06

Adam Dunn walkoff to beat Brewers...lose next three to White Sox

6/30/2006

Dunn hits walk-off Grand Slam-Reds lose 6 in a row

8/9/2006

Ross walk-off solo shot-Reds lose 2 then win 2 before losing again.

9/12/2006

Larue hits walk-off solo shot-Reds lose miserably.

From the Dayton Daily News...

Dunn asked offhandedly before the game, "Who's pitching for them?" Told it was Peavy, Dunn said, "Oh, God."

Randy Johnson, Corey Lidle, Freddy Garcia, Daniel Cabrera, John Lieber, Mark Buerlhe, Tim Hudson, El Duque all have similiar ERAs to Miltons. Only one guy on the list has a lower amount of walks and hits per innings pitched and he's a HOFer.

Good thing we can't find a reliable number three.

Strike you are fighting an uphill losing battle.

I feel Milton has done a good job since the all-star break and is battling Harang as their best starter since that time.

All good names but having similar, less than typical years.

I hope your not using Johnson and Milton, in the same sentence..... If you and others are happy with Milton, that is your right. Than continue on being happy with mediocrity and an occasional, good outing.

Spin the good outings, quality starts all you want....bottom line is giving your team a chance to win and wins. Ramirez had 10 quality starts, out of 19 games started and he's 4-9 with a 5.37 ERA....difference between me and others, I don't tolerate or accept just being "okay or not bad"...while getting paid very well.

Harang has either 1 or 0 wins in his last 8 outings.

Just in case you forgot Latch, the Reds lost 8 of 9 and 20 of 29 overall going into the AS break to fall one game under .500 with Kearns and Lopez on the roster. They were a .500 team with and without them...

I did forget actually. I flew to Vegas during the break and I'm quite sure I was probably looking forward to that instead of hinging on every Reds game. They also lost 8 of 10 on the road trip so the trade must not have helped with that. The Reds had holes then, have more holes now, and will have more holes IMO next year and the few years after that at the minimum. Everyone presumeably wants the same thing..a winner...I just don't think they are as close as some people think. People are worried about 2008, to an extent I am too, but I also think this was their chance to compete for the playoffs this year. I think that chance went up in flames with Majewski's ERA.

All good names but having similar, less than typical years.

For most of those guys an ERA of 4.5 is about typical. There are a lot of pitchers who have carried large ERAs in their careers. Vasquez, Wells, Garcia. Josh Beckett has an ERA above five and I'd trade Harang or Bronson for him anyday.
