September 14, 200620 yr WooooHoooo! No score thru 5. Cowboy gettin' er done with 2 legs of the hattrick with a couple of plate appearances to go!
September 14, 200620 yr The Donkey strikes out with runners on 1st and 3rd. Our season in a microcosm. He and Larue have buck fever and are ready to get their hindends back to Texas.
September 14, 200620 yr For most of those guys an ERA of 4.5 is about typical. There are a lot of pitchers who have carried large ERAs in their careers. Vasquez, Wells, Garcia. Josh Beckett has an ERA above five and I'd trade Harang or Bronson for him anyday.I like Beckett also, but I wouldn't trade either for him....NOT to pitch at GABP but I do understand your point. He can be overpowering at times, while on other occasions not last 2-3 innings, which I've watched twice this season. Often times players pitch for offensive teams, capable of carrying them through rough stretches, by putting the ball in play a lot and hitting. Power, is another means of overcoming inept pitching. The Reds have good power numbers, but they are extremely woeful at making contact. Their outs, are not productive and don't often, advance runners into scoring position. Pitchers with high ERA's, must be with a team that puts the ball in play, scores in bunches, is consistent hitting with RISP and have reliable closer....Wells, Garcia and Beckett, along with Randy Johnson certainly fall under those categories.

As does Eric Milton?????????? If he had 15 wins his ERA wouldn't be a big deal.
September 14, 200620 yr And the defensive catcher makes a great defensive play. :sssh: :sssh: :sssh: :sssh: Don't post too loud, you'll anger the Larue apologists. The seige will be unnerving!

September 14, 200620 yr As does Eric Milton?????????? If he had 15 wins his ERA wouldn't be a big deal.He does have 16 wins....in 2 years combined. Harang and Arroyo win with these same guys, that Milton struggles with....different types of pitchers and he's not going to be effective at GABP, giving up 40+ HR's per year. If his ERA would be lower, his win total would be up by simply allowing, less runs, less runners, less HR's, less BB's, less extra basehits....less, less, less. Milton is more, more, more....allows more HR's, allows more extra basehits, makes more money and needs more consistency.
