Track the Reds (Second Half)

Featured Replies

With what went down today, it's a game they need to win. The thing I have yet to see mentioned is the Cards know the next 10 days can put them in total control of the Central...

Or make them lose total control of it...

Of course. I doubt that's the mindset a very veteran Cards team comes to town with. The Reds have to play their best baseball of the season over the next 10 days. If they do, it's going to be a fun stretch run for us as fans...

The next four days can make or break the season. Let's hope they get it started right by thumping Weaver and starting it off with a W. The rest of August is brutal, and I think these four games sets the tone.....

The next 4 days are very important in the Central race.

The question is: which teams will show up for the Cards and Reds?

Agree and this series, can either make you a Division contender or Wild Card hopeful, for both teams.

Regarding the ticket prices and $1 hot dogs....I understand the logic and hopefully, some who attend for the reduced rate will continue to support the Reds, after this series....winning and being in a Division race, will certainly get some fans back.

Sure wish Jr. would get out of that slump or be moved out of the 3rd spot in the lineup.;) :sssh: :D

Would be there this week BUT school is starting and some of these nights become school nights for the kid.

Will Majewski go on the DL to make room for Claussen this week? Lohse has been promised another start on Friday, so if Claussen is activated, he'll be in the pen, something he's never done in the big leagues before.

However, Claussen has struggled at Louisville: 0-2 with an 8.34 ERA...31 hits allowed over 22 2/3 innings.

Maybe Claussen will go on an extended DL stay and the Reds will wait on Mercker to return before Majewski is placed on the DL?

The Reds have acquired right-hander Ryan Franklin and cash from Philadelphia in exchange for the proverbial player to be named later.

Franklin, 33, is expected to be in uniform for tonight's game. He was 1-5 with a 4.58 ERA in 46 relief appearances for the Phillies before being designated for assignment July 30. He's on a one-year deal that's paying him $2.6 million this year. Prior to this year, he was used mostly as a starter in Seattle.

A corresponding move will be made prior to the game. And for the record, yes, Gary Majewski does have options remaining.

Huh???

"0" Saves ever.....allows more hits that innings pitched

for $2.6 mil a year….don't quite see the logic here, unless the player to be named, includes an equal or larger salary, which the Reds would be trying to move/dump....

Remember that 2/3 of the season is over, so he's owed less than a million right now. And factor in that the Reds were also given cash in the exchange. And he doesn't have any saves because he's been a starter most of his career. As for his numbers, I am also confused as to why he was added. Maybe Belisle isn't close to ready, and with Lohse in the #5 spot now they needed a long relief guy that can eat some innings. Who knows...

Very good points and the financial reasons, I understand on the Reds part. I can't see his $2.6 mil salary, being justified with those type of stats.

The big thing that jumps out at me, is his propensity to give up the HR's....and the big totals were with Seattle.

I'm with you, there must be a little more to this deal, than we realize right now and if not, fans should be careful beyond the outfield wall.

I'm hearing that Standrige and Majewski are going on the DL. In other news, the DBacks just picked up Livan Hernandez...

# Ryan Franklin acquired from the Phillies, should be in uniform tonight

# Kent Mercker activated from the DL

# Gary Majewski placed on the 15-day DL with "inflammation" in his right shoulder

# Jason Standridge placed on the 15-day DL with back spasms

# Matt Belisle sent to Louisville on a rehab assignment

# Brandon Claussen returned from his rehab assignment but NOT reinstated

Brandon Claussen returned from his rehab assignment but NOT reinstated

Could a waiver wire trade be in the works?

Could a waiver wire trade be in the works?

Let's hope so. Not sure what he would fetch in return though...
