Could a waiver wire trade be in the works?
I'm in agreement and some team, would probably claim him.

# Ryan Franklin acquired from the Phillies, should be in uniform tonight

# Kent Mercker activated from the DL

# Gary Majewski placed on the 15-day DL with "inflammation" in his right shoulder

# Jason Standridge placed on the 15-day DL with back spasms

# Matt Belisle sent to Louisville on a rehab assignment

# Brandon Claussen returned from his rehab assignment but NOT reinstated

JMO but there is not one pitcher on this list who has shown me anything. Standridge might be the only one I like. Mercker is done, Majewski...are you kidding me? Inflammation makes you blow every game you pitch in and have an 11.something ERA.

Belisle...has upside but hasnt shown me anything.

Claussen- washed up... forget it....send him somewhere else.

At this point, I like Mercker more than most of the other guys out there.

Majewski has been "over used", everyone can see that just by looking at his numbers the last season and 1/2. Putting him on the DL gives him a chance to rest and get some rehab in Louisville while the Reds balance out the bullpen.

Is it just me, or is Claussen gone?

Why did the Reds pick up this castaway from Philly in Franklin? Makes no sense to me. Sure, he's owed virtually nothing, but on the downside - he's done nothing!

It's like Krivsky takes any reliever who is a castaway from another team and gives them an audition - Estebian Yan or Joe Mays for example.

He is one of the more active GM's with the waiver wire than Reds fans are used to.

It's a shame that the Cardinals are coming to town and the Reds have to offer half price tickets and $1 hot dogs to pack the house. Please tell me Cincinnati has more knowledgable baseball fans than this....

Maybe it is not a case of them not being knowledgeable. Some schools are starting back and a lot of the families have kids in high school football camps ,band and some are going away to college for the first time. I am sure that the high gas prices are also making families change how they handle their finances. With the increase price of everything as it is, I am sure it factors into making a decision of going to a game.

Answering the Brandon Claussen question left hanging in the earlier list of transactions -- he apparently will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery to repair fraying in his rotator cuff and labrum. At least, that's what he told the media earlier today; the Reds aren't saying anything until Doc Kremchek examines Claussen at some point today.

That word comes from my colleague Josh Katzowitz down at the park (I'm "off" today), and the explanation being given is that this whole rehab process that has been ongoing for more than a month was just to see if Claussen could make it back without surgery.

So the Franklin pickup is insurance and someone else to run out as a starter if Lohse hits a rough spot?

Claussen is gone for the year - will he ever be an impact pitcher for the Reds in the future?

Where is Paul Wilson during all of this?

1. That's a likely situation.

2. Claussen getting it together seems less and less likely as each season goes by.

3. Every time he tries to rehab, Wilson has a set back.

We've seen Claussen pitch his last Reds game. As well as Wilson. :thumb:

I wouldn't be so sure on Claussen. I can see him back next year...

:ylsuper: All I have to say.... I did not see him making it as our 5th starter when it comes playoff time......sorry

The most intriguing news involved Majewski, who was obtained along with left-hander Bill Bray and shortstop Royce Clayton as part of a package that included outfielder Austin Kearns and shortstop Felipe Lopez.

Bray has been solid and Clayton has helped the Reds stay in contention in the NL Central with his dependable fielding. Majewski has struggled since he arrived in Cincinnati, going 1-2 with a 12.54 ERA in 11 games.

Majewski pitched in the World Baseball Classic in March, replacing Mets closer Billy Wagner on the U.S. roster. He said Monday that he has taken anti-inflammatory drugs since early in the season and received a cortisone shot before the All-Star break.

"It's been bothering me for a while, after the World Baseball Classic," Majewski said Monday. "I tried to fire it up too quick."

General manager Wayne Krivsky said that Majewski didn't tell the team that his shoulder was bothering him all along.

"That's the first I've heard about it," Krivsky said.

Asked if the Nationals told him about the cortisone shot and the anti-inflammatory drugs Majewski was taking before the trade, Krivsky said, "I'm not going to comment on any of that stuff."
