No argument there. Again where does it stop? I'm not saying don't do it I'm telling you why I think some of you guys go off the rails with the stuff. But much like the gun debates, you're going to see it your way and I'm going to see if mine. Like I said in an earlier post, why give to the trash collectors and postmen and not each and every fireman, policeman or men and women in the armed forces? Aren't they doing much more for you then your postman or trash collector?

Being appreciative of what educators do, we always made sure that our children's teachers got a little something. Generally homemade cookies or brownies; something along those lines.

Agree. It's nice to be appreciated and know they are thinking of you.

 

I have multiple kids thus multiple teachers, so I'll be busy making treats for them this week.

 

One of my boys really struggles and has an IEP, so his 2 special Ed teachers will each get a gift card. I know it's their job to provide special instructions for their students, but I am very grateful for what they do.

Thanks for going there! My wife is going bonkers this year since both the guys have little lady friends. I have told her several times that they may or may not be permanent and they are not her daughters! She has always wanted to buy for a girl so she is trying to make the most of fun shopping.

Side note, when we were dating my mom did the same to her. Bought her a bunch of nice things. More than what she got from her own mom and dad. Mom had to tone it back until she became an official member of the team.

When my daughter is finished with exams I'll get her opinion on the gifts.

In the end, we all give based on our own reasons. What those are, are personal to each person making the gift. It's not that I don't care about policemen, and the service men and the fireman, etc. It's that the gifts I give are to people who I encounter frequently who do things for me. But, garbage collectors, in particular, do a great service and I appreciate it, and I want to give them a token of my appreciation. That's all. I don't think they are any more worthy or unworthy than any other people in any other professions. But these guys and gals impact me on a weekly basis in a positive way. I want them to know I appreciate it. I can't give to everyone, obviously. But I can give to a handful of people who perform services for me that I appreciate.

 

And I really have no problem with that. I just think it's over the top. Just my view, no harm one way or the other.

Bonuses are based on a company specific parameter to their employees. The garbage man, mailman, milkman, doesnt in reality work for me, he/she works for there company. If the company wants to bonus/tip them fine, their right, not my job.

We have an option of which G-men to use. I have stayed with Rumpke even though they are more expensive. They will take anything I throw out there including carcasses. I've often thrown out deer carcasses and they always take them away. If I see the guys on the street I'll hand them $10 bucks to buy lunch. Latest guy I chatted with ended up getting a few extra Christmas gifts for his son.

Do you know for a fact they are specifically into drawing? They might have a different artistic medium — photography, ceramics, painting, writing, etc. — and might find coloring books and colored pencils useless. I know this artist would.
