Giving gifts to teachers should be an automatic for any parent IMO, it doesn't have to be anything special. My mom used to make loaves of banana-nut bread that I would bring to my teachers growing up. It just the thought that counts. But seriously why would anyone actually care who you give gifts to? It's just a nice thing to do. You're not buying them a new car or something, what does it hurt giving your mail carrier a $10 gift card and a handwritten note saying thank you? It's called being nice. Someone doesn't have much Christmas Spirit. Haha

Bonuses are based on a company specific parameter to their employees. The garbage man, mailman, milkman, doesnt in reality work for me, he/she works for there company. If the company wants to bonus/tip them fine, their right, not my job.

I have no problem giving gifts, I just don't understand why people think everyone needs to get a gift for every single little thing in life. Maybe it goes back to the everyone should get a trophy idea, I don't know. If that makes me Scrooge McDuck, so be it. Where does it end? I don't know too many people that can afford to give everyone out there in daily life a gift. And again, I sure wouldn't expect it if I were doing their job.

Exactly. If it feels like a job, don't do it. If it feels like a token of appreciation from the heart, go for it.

No argument there. Again where does it stop? I'm not saying don't do it I'm telling you why I think some of you guys go off the rails with the stuff. But much like the gun debates, you're going to see it your way and I'm going to see if mine. Like I said in an earlier post, why give to the trash collectors and postmen and not each and every fireman, policeman or men and women in the armed forces? Aren't they doing much more for you then your postman or trash collector?

My wife's family is too large. I can't afford to gift anyone outside that humongous group. I have BEGGED her family to do the "draw names" thing......................I'm still begging.

 

 

By the way, where I worked for years, we were never allowed to accept things like this at Christmas or any time of year, especially if it was money. We had to turn it in to the company. To this day, if we get called for jury duty, the stipend the county gives you for your service, we have to turn in to the company.

I don't care. It was just an opinion that you and a few others can't seem to live with. Why do you care what my opinion is? What's important about my opinion to you that it gets your feathers all ruffled? Am I not allowed to have an opinion all of a sudden or is it just I can't have an opinion that is different from yours?

As a teacher I appreciate any type of gift. a card is fine with me. It is the thought.

Hoops, I have given gift cards to restaurants I know my kids and their friends frequent. Just $10-15. For serious relationships, I've given more personal gifts because I knew them better.

 

I'm in a quandry this year for my garbage collectors and the recycling collectors. In the past I always knew how many worked my route. But this year, I don't. I have met the mail person, so that is less of a quandry. I do feel like I should get something for the UPS and FedEx delivery people, because they've been here virtually every day since I moved in. :lol2:
