Outside of Boyle's run between 1999

 

I have no problem with where Boyle sits in the ranking. Re-statement # 212.

 

But Boyle had very good teams at different points in their program. Again. See my synopsis earlier.

 

IMO, Boyle was the best team in their District in '79, '80, '86 but they lost each time to Ron Finley and Russell County. By single digits each time. In the mud.

 

Though they didn't make the playoffs I would have ranked those and the '75 and '76 teams in AA's top 10.

 

It's like Danville as well. From 1963 to 1984, The Ads never won the state title. Never got past the first round. Will that be held against them? Probably not. Because they had some fine teams in that stretch and particularly in '76 and '77 were one of the top AAA clubs but lost in the first round to Shelby County with blocked punts at the end of each game costing them.

 

I will defend the Rebels History but I will try to be realistic as well.

And you cannot ignore the ultimate goal. Again...if we had won our titles over the past 50 years would you look at our program differently?!?? Sounds like you would and that's ridiculous.

Okay...same scenario, so since 1997 (Chuck Smith Era thru present day era) Boyle has won 2 more titles than BG and sits 4 spots behind?!?!

 

Doing this rating system is fine but at some point doesn't logic have to allow for adjustments? The college football playoff committee does this. Maybe gchs should too?!?!

Once again... we are talking about 56 years of football here.

 

Boyle has been a Top 5 or 6 program over the past 15 years... but pre-Chuck Smith the Rebels probably aren't even a Top 50 program.

 

Tilghman and Corbin don't have the Titles of Boyle..but both have been solid, winning programs with deep playoff success for 40+ years

 

AND there was a LOT of football played before we had a class system and playoffs.

In that case... and this is a hypothetical which logically would make zero sense... I would view them the exact same way as I do for having their titles as they are now.

 

You would never see a program though have such stark ebbs and flows where they go from winning essentially nothing to winning a championship that many times.

This is the crux of the matter that you don't understand in this thread then. There would be years of build up before and after each title. You don't just pop out of nowhere and win a title. They would undoubtedly have more playoff wins and district titles than they do now.

I absolutely would have and so would everyone else.

 

If you don't see the difference in being able to sustain success over time and a short burst of unbelievable success as being different I don't know what to say.

 

This is not a study in who is the best program in the present, it is a study in History

 

Than the list should be titled differently. Maybe "Greatest Tradition in KY HS Football".

 

When you win the titles is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. Generally speaking every team had an opportunity every year to win the title.

 

You're saying because we did ours in 12 year span they are less valuable than if they had been done over 50 years.

 

I'm not saying we should be ranked in order of titles. I'm saying that 5-10 more district wins over a long period should not carry enough weight to be ranked ahead of a team that achieved ultimate success when that other team didn't.

I don't have a problem with someone being ranked ahead of us with less titles. But not giving extra weight to each additional title is dumb when the ultimate goal is. STATE TITLE not playoff or district wins.

Where did I say they were nothing? It took Chuck till year 7 to win. (that's called building up by the way) Get your stuff straight if you want to argue with me.

What was Boyle before 1999. Nothing. Tradition should play a part and that's exactly why I feel Corbin should be ahead of Boyle. Corbin has always been a contender.
